How do you carry your slipjoint?

I have always just thrown my swiss army and slip joints in my pocket. I usually don't put other things such as keys in the same pocket. I ordered my first GEC and now I don't know how I should carry it. I am not as so concerned with the wear on the GEC but with loosing it. I see KSF has a few pocket sheaths that I could slip the GEC in. I was thinking that this will protect and also help me from loosing it.

So any recommendations?

Front left pocket with a white handkerchief on top. Nothing else goes in that pocket, so I don't worry about undue scratching or other damage.

I ended up making some sheaths myself to organize the pockets. I stole some ideas from others here, there are some nifty setups around. It's really easy to make a rudimentary sheath which works pretty well. My recommendation is to just make something and try if it works for you and then improve the design.

And larger ones right rear

I like my traditional knives 3.5" or less and find that they ride very comfortably and snugly in my watch pocket of my jeans. When I wear my dress pants for work the brand I get has a little pocket sewn inside the front right pocket that holds my knife perfectly and keeps it from getting all scratched up by my keys.

Depends on the knife. My Buck knives go into a pocket with whatever else is there. Nice knives go into the right front pocket with no other hard objects. My pocket watch goes in my watch pocket.

Right front pocket...more often than not, an Old Timer 8OT or a Buck 307.

And with the great Opinel thread going, I've dusted a few off and they are in the rotation.

I like the various sheaths I see in the forums, but I end up just slipping the knife in the pocket, with the car keys and coins.

My knife always goes in the right front pocket. I also carry a pen, white out marker, keys and any change I get during the day. I have been wanting to make something like Sturzi but it would be to organize things, I dont sweat the scratchs. Actually I enjoy the well earned patina look. I buy them to use and they look better to me the older and more used they get.

I like belt sheaths for my traditionals... I had a custom sheath made for my GEC #42's--a trapper and a trader; I carry my #76 in a small Queen leather sheath as well. I also have leather pocket slips for those (large KSF), as well as a custom one made for--you might have guessed it--my custom 110. Generally, however, I prefer wearing my 110's on my belt, horizontal in the nylon sheath.

In the right front pocket, banging against keys, coins, and everything else! It adds character, and besides, knives are meant to be used... even nice knives.

My EDC (currently a #6 Opinel) goes in my left front pocket along with my life savings ($2 or $3 in bills and coins) and my keys. Don't worry about scratches or moisture since I don't play in the rain anymore or work hard enough to break into a sweat.:p To the OP, I tried a leather pouch several years ago, but gave it up when it slid out of my pocket unnoticed and I lost it and the knife I had in it. Was driving a truck over the road, and probably lost it while climbing on my flat bed to tie a load down, or cover it with a tarp. Haven't used one since, and have not lost a knife since then either. YMMV

Blessings,

Omar

Usually in a pocket slip sheath. Or if I'm combining with a fixed blade, I'll sometimes put them both in a combo pocket sheath.

Larger slip joints (4.25" and above) usually ride in a belt sheath.

I make my own slip sheaths. Some knives go in the same pocket minus the slip sheath, but never two naked knives in the same pocket.

One of the things I like about trads is pocket carry. They always go in the pocket. No sheath, even if it came with one. Usually front right, sometimes right back.

Been starting to carry a trad knife in addition to my "normal" edc knife. One hand opening knife clipped to my front right pocket with a hard wallet in the same pocket. Back right pocket has traditional knife and handkerchief. Dont have any really nice traditionals yet though!

I understand not wanting to lose a knife, but using a pocket sheath reduces its utility for me. I also have to carry a wallet, keys, phone, handkerchief, and chap stick. Don't have the room to dedicate a pocket solely to a knife in its sheath.

my traditional, which, when I am carrying one is the knife I will reach for first, usually goes in my left front pocket. That is my loose miscellany pocket, lighter, any change, notes, to-do lists, tooth picks etc. I normally carry a serrated clip on one hand opener in my right back pocket, especially lobstering, for emergencies. no offense to the traditionalists, but there is no way, if I am going overboard with a 1000 lbs of lobster traps speeding up the process, that I am going to dig in a pocket and fumble to open a plain edged non locking two handed folder while I slide down the deck on my bum or go feet first towards the bottom.

If I am not carrying my revolver in my right front pocket I will stick the traditional there. The mountain man isn't the most pocket friendly knife due to its length but in my dickies it stands up straight so it is easier to carry than in the looser pockets of jeans or cargos that I have to wear to my assistant harbormaster job.

Thankfully I don't have such a perilous existence. I have only carried traditionals for many years now and always in my front right pocket along with whatever else is thrown in. I'm right handed so I always reach there first. I've never lost a traditional (touch wood), but I expect that I will at some stage. It's just something to accept, like losing a phone or your keys or wallet.

I just got a KSF pocket sheath (large) for my #23 Pioneer. I had them slip the knife inside the sheath to maker sure it fit as I wasn't sure before ordering. It is a pretty large and fairly expensive folder that I don't want it to end up looking like my SAK after being mixed with keys, coins, and whatever else might find its way into my pants pocket. The sheath will allow me to carry a small SAK inside the same pocket comfortably. I'm trying to find a way to carry my #23 and still have the convenience of some of the frequently used SAK tools.
