How Do You Carry Your Traditional?

Another carrier of the KSF pocket sheath, with a Case medium congress in it. I have 10 of the pocket sheaths, and they'll handle everything from a small toothpick to a large stockman (from experience). At ~$18 each, they're hard to beat.

And since Derrick is a member here, I'm pretty sure I can post the link as well. Here's where the sheath is on his site:

Thank you, sir! The #85 EO is definitely one of those 'stand out' patterns for me.

Anything 3.5" or smaller rests in the bottom of my left pocket (right pocket is keys etc). For larger and/or single blades like the CSC Half Moon, Buck 503/501, Moki Kronos etc. they go in a William Henry leather clip case that is clipped to the inside of my pocket. I love it, though they're a little pricey.

With the pocket sheaths I assume you put the knife in the sheath and stick the sheath in the front pocket. The purpose being to protect the knife and maybe with the size, prevent it from going horizontal in the pocket?

To get the knife you have to pull both out of the pocket and then pull the knife out? That sounds like a PITA. Am I missing something or is it a ritual of sorts?

Yup. I generally like the way that most pocket knives ride better in a slip than just loose in my pocket.

Not really a PITA, imo. I just slide the sheath out of my pocket, turn it over and pinch the bottom of it, and the knife slides out. If you don't care that much about your knives getting full of lint, scratched up by keys, coins, etc. then it's certainly not necessary. All of my knives are users, but I still prefer to protect them in my pocket.

I am a bit biased as I make my own sheaths to carry but it depends on the knife's contours as to how well it retains the knife;

Makes it a lot easier to get to the knife even when seated...

Specifically looking for non-loose-in-pocket options. I'm coming from modern pocket "clipped" knives. I don't want a knife flopping around in my pocket. Maybe a belt pouch or back pocket sheath. Pics preferred.

Couple of thoughts.

1) I find that I must notice a change in carry during the first week or so. After that, I no longer notice it. You might give it a go and try.

2) if find that different knives carry better than others loose. Generally, I find if a knife is flat (the Micra pictured or many traditional single blade knives like the Buck 500 series) I almost don't notice it. I also find that lighter knives are less noticeable. It's one reason I like the Opinel so much.

I wouldn't call it a ritual, and definitely not a pain. I don't use my knife to scare off toughs at the mall, escape burning helicopters, or dispatch zombies. The things I use a knife for just don't require lightning fast deployment.

Acronyms for phrases containing unacceptable words are just as unacceptable as the words themselves.

Non-sarcastic replies to the OP prevent infraction points.

It depends on the individual pocket sheath. I have a pocket sheath and it stays in the pocket when I pull out the knife. All it does is orient the knife in the pocket and keep it in one position. A sheath made of cloth or suede will work that way. Mine is made of heavy cloth.

William Henry has some very nice clipped pouches that work nicely for a variety of traditional patterns.

If you work in the kind of environment, (warehouse, shop, garage) where it's ok, these are great.

It's smooth bone. Here's another view with the blade open:

And here are a few more in the family, to show the variation between examples:

Wow. Thanks.

I'm more concerned about sarcasm than acronyms.
Sarcasm is never friendly.

Got three guidelines for successful posting.
1. Post about traditional knives
2. Use family friendly language.
