How Do You Carry Your Traditional?

I wear jeans to work (selling building materials), I carry a 4" or smaller pocketknife in my left front pocket, iphone rides on top. No flopping or scratching of the knife. I must pull out the phone to get the knife, but I haven't lost a knife since I started putting the phone on top. OH

My modern folders I always just clipped to my pocket. But the more I carry traditional I just toss them in my pocket and go. I've even taken the clips off of most of my moderns also. I'm going to try a belt sheath next though and see how it works. Why I like just throwing in my pocket is because I don't always wear pants that have belt loops, but do always have pockets. I've not done the pocket sheath b/c it's a whole extra step and more width in the pocket. I don't mind if my knives get wear on them as they are tools, and I like character on my things (character is different from abuse though). Try them all and figure out what works best for your needs.
Cheers,
Hawk

Back pocket sheath (vertical) for some of the larger traditionals. Smaller (#15 or smaller) go in a leather slip cover in whichever pocket makes the most sense at the time. Usually my left front, with my keys.

Woodrow,
I actually never thought of this, I am going to buy a cool bandana for my right pocket folder.
Thanks for the idea.

It works great as long as your pocket doesn't get sweaty. Can't take all the credit though. The Peanut Cult figured it out to keep knives in pockets. Sometimes, I'll wrap one knife and stick a peanut below it..... protects the knives, keeps peanut in pocket, I got a bandana if I need it.

I've been using this Mission Wallet for awhile now. It keeps my knife/knives upright and safe in my pocket. I also find that a front pocket wallet is less likely to get picked and more comfortable.

Well I bought my first trad knife and it arrived this week. GEC #15. I've discovered that it fits fine in the pocket by itself. I was concerned that it would be uncomfortable lying horizontal, but I don't notice.

For every thing except my Peanuts/Pembertons I now use a KSF pocket slip, I actually like the original rather than the Main Street as the standard size one is sized better in my opinion, the Main Street version seems too big. Steven

That is really slick!

I'm a fan of the belt sheath personally , I have a modern knife on order and it will be my first real attempt at caring a knife clipped in my pocket . Fumbling around in my pockets trying to find a knife has always annoyed me . I started using a sheath years ago when I first got a Leatherman , and soon realised the efficiency and ease of having your knife on your belt , no matter what type or size it is .

Love the sheath. Can you share more info on it?

Its one I made myself , I got sick of not being able to find sheaths that correctly fitted my knives , so decided recently to make my own . its a great hobby and not difficult or expensive to get into . I don't actually have that knife and sheath anymore , I gifted it to my neighbour at Christmas .
I'll put up another couple of pics of it plus a couple of Le Thier sheaths I made .

I have a few pocket slips from GEC but I didn't care to use them.
I like the character produced by scratches, patina, etc.
And my work slacks have sewn in pockets within my RF pockets which help keep the knife upright.

Another way I carry when I'm wearing my 5.11's or Duluth cargo pants is the knife pocket which is present in several pairs of my tactical pants and shorts...

...the pockets easily accommodate folders up to 5" closed.

I'm also a fan of the Mission Wallet. I've been using one for at least 10 years. Excellent wallet if you don't carry a ton of stuff.

I tried something recently that has worked very well, much better even than I had anticipated.

I'm using a safety pin to section off a part of the edge of my pocket to slip the knife into. To do this I put the knife in my pocket where I wanted it to sit (not while wearing the pants). Then use a safety pin through the fabric of the pocket to keep it from falling flat.

My main concern was that it would make my pocket feel weird, that I'd feel the safety pin against my leg and mostly that it would come undone and poke me. It turns out none of these problems exist and I'm pretty certain the pin will never come undone.

I use mostly a leather pocket slip sold by KSF. They sell two sizes. Great Eastern also sells two sizes. When I have cargo pants on, the slip for a large knife stays in my pants leg pocket. Often is in my right rear pocket.

KSF sells other options that appear good that slide onto your belt.

AG Russell sells some nice belt pouches.

On the inexpensivie side, Victorinox sells both leather and nylon pouches that fit onto your belt.

I have been unwilling to have something made custom for me.
