So, I’ve come to the realization that when I’m looking to buy a new knife whether it be a “hard use” blade or something for those dressier nights out to dinner, there is always a little voice in my head asking myself “How much of a “fidget factor” does said knife present me with?” Now that I’ve finally come to terms with this and accepted that its just a part of my many personal parameters when looking for a knife I wanted to ask the humble BF community how many of you suffer this same sickness? If so, what is your favorite “fidget knife” to annoy the roommate/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/aunt/uncle/brother/sister whoever it is you live with!

In case some of you care as to what my answer is..I’d have to say my BM Anthem or PM2 are about neck and neck for 1st in terms of “fidget-bility”. Anthem for the simple fact of the rocket firing blade speed/sound of the steel hitting the Ti and PM2 just because well...who in their right mind doesn’t enjoy “spydie flicking” their Spyderco?! :D

Thanks for sharing,
Pictures/descriptions as to why you pick the knife are encouraged!

Another "no." I enjoy using mu knives to cut things, and appreciating their workmanship/design...but pretending that non-autos are autos....no. If I wanted to "enjoy the rocket firing blade speed" I'd get a DA OTF.

You have seen those, right? Blade shoots out, makes the cool noise you are approximating. Think we have a subforum all about them here.

I will never buy a OTF, as you stated I also use my knives for EDC. I just cant see how a OTF knife EDC’s “well”

I love to fidget with my PM2, especially. Sometimes, I intentionally carry something else, so I won't fidget.

Yeah like today I had to commute to work for about 40 minutes or so, so I brought my Hati along for the ride just so I could flip the thing open a few times. Makes for a MUCH better car ride ! Haha

Warning for minor trolling

Why not? For the amount of time you spend and value you place on pretending that your PM 2 is one, seems like you should get one.

I mean I dont go out in the woods waving at brush and making "chop chop" noises with my peanut. I bring a machete.

You like flipping you knife open like its an auto...then why not get one.

Then why not have an auto for that. Why pretend?

Knives that I like but don't use often (sometimes never) have a huge fidget factor for me. Many knives I simply never get around to using as I'm pretty comfortable with the selection of users I have. When I got my first AO and flippers, they were huge in fidget factor, but that wears off.

I bought a CRKT Ringed Razel once and was messing with it driving on my way home from the knife store and cut myself pretty good. I tried to cut something with it and the extra edge got me. So, I don't play with knives driving very often other than just looking at them.

I probably play with fixed blades more than anything as I seldom use them and that is about the only use they get fidgiting.

If answering the OP's question is annoying anybody, I hardly know what to tell you.

I wanted to talk about knives not other members.

Kind of like playing cowboys and Indians when you're a kid. Chop chop....

I assume when fidget factor is used, it means playing with a knife but not really cutting anything, right?

While I generally support the whole knives-as-toys thing, flipping your knife in a moving car seems like a bad idea.

I like flipping my knives and fiddling with them, but I don't do it while there are pets or children nearby, or around anyone it would bother, or in say, a moving vehicle.

Look the OP is simply asking if other BF members take the “fidget factor” into consideration when purchasing or choosing a knife to carry.
And frankly, yes, I agree with you Aquaholicc. Most of the time, I prefer to buy flippers that exite the “fiddler” in me. Yes, a knife is a tool and should be used as such, but it is also fun to fidget with while watching TV or other activities (depending on the users’ desire and freewill).
The CRKT M21-14SF (despite being made from sub-par materials) is one of my favorite knives to fidget with. It has one of the sexiest sounds when deployed. When the liner lock safety sets, it sounds oh so sweet. :p
And sometimes, I choose said knife because it is one of my favorites to play with.
So, yeah, Aquaholicc, my answer is yes.

Sorry to hear this has happened to you, I guess I wont learn until it happens to me! You’re right about the fidget factor wearing off sadly, the honeymoon phase they call it. But all in all, I keep coming back to these two while I’m relaxing on the couch watching TV or whatnot.

Hey now! This is what I was looking for, glad to hear someone giving up a suggestion to the cause. I will do research on this CRKT later tonight,

Thanks for sharing!
