How do you get rid of your knives?

Give them to local homeless people?

:D

In all seriousness, if you don't like them, and if the shipping costs in selling them is more than they sell for, and they are too crappy to give to people you like, then your options are limited. Cynics "sharpening" option is great...its what I would do....convex them! If not that you could do silly "destruction" tests (run them over with your car! set them on fire!)....or throw them at trees...or just throw them in the trash.

If you really don't want them, try a give away here on the forums. Somebody will want them. If by some chance they can't be given away, Do what I did when I found myself with a few items that couldn't be sold. I took them canoeing with me,and dropped them over board in deep water.

I just give stuff I don't like away... Gave away a Benchmade 940 once, shortly after I realized I would of sold it... Kinda felt dumb but w/e, the guy enjoyed it.

I have a bunch of knives that I have out grown. Back when I first joined I was really interested in SOG knives. One could say that they were better quality then, but who knows. I hesitate to just give them away as some are fairly expensive, but I don't use them nor do I intend to use them ever. But I am in a similar situation and my answer to date has been to do nothing. I lean toward the give away or landfill choice.

An easy option is to sell through Ebay. Figure out what the shipping costs so you can list that in your a listing. You don't have to necessarily loose anything on shipping as most realize it costs to ship these days. But the final selling price of a particular knife might be another story.

Other option is to sell in BF (with the appropriate membership). Everything costs one way or another these days.

Of the ones that I don't want anymore:Point Guard(Plain)Double Agent I(Serrated)Urban PalBushman(Straightback)Pocket BushmanReally dropped the ball with the Bushmans. I really liked the Bowie Bushman so I just went ahead and bought the other two, and I just have no use for them.
I like the Pocket Bushman. If you really want to throw it away that badly I would be happy to take it off your hands and put it to good use.

All my friends are responsible adults so I take my old ones I don't like anymore and give them away. They're usually decent quality but not valuable and that keeps them from needing to borrow mine. I just recently went through my knives and picked out a handful I don't want anymore to give away to friends who need them.

If you don't want your knives, post a trade thread in the appropriate forum. If you want to sell them, you need to buy the appropriate membership.
Never thought about trading them here. Thanks.

yard sale!
Selling to strangers is exactly what I want to avoid. Not to mention all the non knife people who'll think the "I know where I can get one of these for $5" trick will actually work.

I've only got one or two that are like that.

Maybe I'll do a giveaway for it.

You know, while cheap knives may not be the best thing in the world compared to quality knives............

Practice sharpening on them. That's what I've been doing with my less......favored blades. Has been producing good results, and re-acquainting me with blades that while not the best that I own, are good enough for consideration for tasks that I might not wish to choose to subject my high end knives to.

I also toss them in my tool box, my truck, my garage, my gf's car's trunk, that kind of thing. If they get used once, that's enough to justify their presence.

Another good idea is if you have any desire to make knives, you *could, if you read the proper literature, and follow safety practices* learn to grind on them.....practice keeping the edges cool, etc.

That's what sucks about buying low end knives.... when you try to sell them nobody wants them. I had two crappy knives that I just gave away to my friends.

The same thing happens with high end knives. Most of them will lose value and sell below their purchase price.

That's what I do. Use them in the shop, garage. Leave one in the truck. Use them in camp. If it gets lost or broken, you won't be out big bucks.
You can never have too many knives or tools.

Sounds like my sales thread... Trying to get my lower end knives out to help ease the cost of my move new ones but most don't see the potential for A great starter knife or beater. Much easier to sell to non knife addicts.
