I hear that now an then, "you could buy two of this other knife an buy 3 replacements thereafter" is the argument I heard yesterday..I ended up thinking about it for a while after..after all I found it very easy to justify..an even easier the more I got.. tho the strength, toughness, quality, an warranty are reason enough, It dawned on me that the best part is that every tasks from opening mail to buttoning logs in the forest, become fun as hell!.. it changes the whole aspect of doing work.. its a lot more than an expensive strong knife.

My list exactly, minus #s 4, 5, and 6. I was right there with you until I read the word "status". I'm sorry, but I actually lol'd. ;)

I always prefer quality over quantity in everything I own. Knives are no different.

If we hogs/piglets can't admit that part of the appeal of Busse knives for either us or others is 4,5,6 --- then there is definitely some denial going on. I personally care wayyyyy more about quality, durability, performance, etc. --- but I know exclusivity is a big drawing factor.

Just speaking the truth

not 5 my friend. never

not 5 my friend. never

Maybe not for you, for me, or for those that care most about the capabilities of the product ---- but 5 is just a part of reality. I'll never judge anyone about any of the items I listed.

It's the same for cars --- the enthusiasts care about the performance and quality . . . But not acknowledging the draw factor of status (for ourselves and/or for others) is to be in a perpetual state of denial.

Just my 2 cents

Buy one expensive knife that you will never be able to break is cheaper than replacing a cheap knife 10 times.

I bought my first one because of;

performance.
After Papa Thud had me make a bunch of sheaths for the original E series I took a SHE as payment.
That was the first one I beat on.

Bought my second because of;

The way Jerry called me personally and thanked me for the sheath I made him that impressed me a bunch.
and that was over 15 years ago.

over 11 years ago i went to my first Blade show and well, the people is what makes me loyal to Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrapyard.

I love this family and that is why I continue to buy every model that comes out.

The performance, Reliability, value (both what you get for your dollar and resale ) , and guarantee are truly secondary to me.

And the Status/Exclusivity,................. no offense Rob, but that means absolutely nothing to me.

I may have a few Busse's but I would not work so hard to impress someone else, that is just not me, never has been never will be.

I mean have you seen me ? I wear a wallet chain, have big skull rings, super hairy, a bit portly ;) and fashion from 60 years ago.
Status is not one of my concerns :)

I remember going camping with old college friends and only bringing my HHFSH ---- out chopped every other blade/hatchet in the group. If I recall correctly, it out chopped a BK-9, RD9, Condor Hudson Bay, Estwing Home Depot Hatchet, and Schrade SCHF9.

Busse products are truly exceptional. My Basic 8 L.E is still stupid sharp after all it's been through. Cheers

Cheers Dave!! You definitely have status around these parts --- whether you care for it or not hahaha. I mean THOSE MITTS!!!! Are they really hands?!!! Haha -- your sheaths are beautiful as always and that's why I've bought so many

As to the whole status/exclusivity discussion --- I knew when I posted that -- that it would get a strong rebuke. My point was that Busse/Bussekin products carry all the things I listed. There are many and I mean many people who refuse to use their knives and proudly champion owning a "Busse Knife". Now I might giggle when I hear this (did I just say giggle?!) -- but it doesn't mean that it's not true. I care a ton about performance ---- which is why I spend so many hours trying to maximize performance with my edge work, but that doesn't mean I can't honestly call out what I see. No offense taken -- and I'm not here promoting buying knives for status --- just calling it out. I will say though --- that a majority of the gents/ladies on the forums around here care WAYY more about Performance, Reliability, and A Fun Loving Community of Knife Addicts!!! Cheers!!

I buy them because they could be useful in almost any disaster senario.

I know it is highly unlikely without using extreme stupidity that a Busse product will fail.

They are fun as hell to use.

Very amazing designs that are as outrageous as they are classy.

They are priced at a level I can afford to build a modest collection of.

And it's super fun to put pics up of well used blades.

My want, my money, my knife. I am 70 years old and no longer feel a need to justify anything I do to anyone except dream girl, and understanding my compulsions is one of the reasons she's dream girl.

Sure you could get multiple regular knives for the cost of a Busse, and just replace them when they break, but unless Amazon Prime can deliver that knife to you on the side of a mountain, in the rain, at night, after you've dropped your pack in the river, and sprained your ankle, and you just broke your blade trying to make some dry kindling, I'd rather know that at least one thing I'm carrying probably won't fail.
