Recommendation? How do you keep the pants bill down?

Cold Steel has the only G10 that’s ever shredded my jeans. Try titanium scales if It’s a problem for you.

:) I primarily carry large Cold Steel folders with G10 and wave openers .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

It's fairly simple to bend out the clip some , according to the thickness of fabric you intend to clip onto . The G10 is easy to sand down as smooth as you like , or use some JB epoxy weld as filler to smooth out the problem areas . ;)

:( Wave opening is just hard on pockets . I mostly wear nyco (nylon and cotton) BDU pants for working on my own property , that are fairly tough .

In public , I almost never wave open . So not an issue for my dressier pants .

Start buying Wrangler RIGGS, problem solved. Or reinforce the jeans you own.

Yes these are the jeans I am thinking of. Not sure if the leather is only on the outside though.

No they do not, that is the only piece of leather for reinforcement. The 5.11 pants have doubled material for reinforcement and the pocket is square cut for a knife.

Worst pocket shredder I've ever had was a Buck Strider spear point. The damn thing was like a cheese grater with a tight clip on it. It would destroy pockets in a few weeks. I just started dropping it in my pocket with the clip on it.
I don t recall that being a problem with mine. I ll have to dig mine out and see. I normally don t think too much about that kind of thing.
My hardest grip clips to get off and on to my pants are my Recon1 s. Sliding a piece of sandpaper under the clip without taking it off solved the problem. Easy fix, and I like the grip of that g10.

Cold Steel folders are brutal too. I had a Recon 1 XL that tore my pants up pretty good, but I assure you the Buck Strider 880 was worse.

The G10 was very aggressive, and the clip was even tighter than the Cold Steel models. It would literally "chew" my pocket with every draw.

Dig yours out and check it out. The scales are like 80 grit sandpaper.

I never had a problem carrying knives in my shorts or pants. Never ruined any of clothes. And I have carried cold steel knives almost a year.

So basically that leather square won’t really help. The real issue is the g10 shredding the stitching that holds the actual pocket to the lip of the pants.

That’s what always happens to mine. The pocket separates from the denim of my jeans after the stitches holding the two together are sawed through.

Same here.

The Recon 1 scales and that tight damned clip. Brutal and I have 2 of them!
I own four different Recon1s and I'm usually carrying one of them without pocket shredding. I guess I got lucky? I've read about them shredding pockets all over the internet and believe it. My Voyager killed pockets so I sanded down under the clip. But took off too much material. Now I don't carry it.

If you want an open top leather sjeath look at Golden Stone Bazaar on Etsy. I still generally prefer clipped knives.

Best as far as wear is my PM2 cruwear with the smoth G10. (Is clipped to my pocket now)

By far the worst is my double gunners grip SNG but don’t carry it much

For my modern folder clipped in pocket I prefer a tight clip, I pretty much always bend them for more retention. Textured scales are fine with me as they help with retention too. I’ve lost one knife and dropped a few due to not enough retention. I had to switch the clip altogether on my g10 Gritillian as it kept falling out getting in and out of my truck! The deep carry clip just had weak retention even after bending plus it kept catching on things and that is far harder on pockets than the tight clip and scales. Nevermind the the cost of replacing knives being a different kind of hard on the pockets!
I’ve found that since carrying a traditional slipjoint in my back pocket as well, I rarely take out my modern folder to cut anything, it just isn’t necessary for 95% of any of my day to day cutting tasks. I still like to have one with me but using my slipjoint saves a lot of wear on the pocket.
