How do you pick which knives to get rid of?

So I have over 100 knives. I think I need to thin out the collection a bit. But how do I choose? Price? Pocket time? Storage space? How many knives I really need? ( that last one is a joke)
How do you all decide which ones to give away or sell?

It doesn't get carried? No sentimental value? It either get put up for trade, sold, or given away. :)

I'm in the same boat. I think I'll decide based on whether or not I'll ever carry/use it.

I think once I start it will get easier to continue; I just cannot start the process for some reason.

If it is not serving any purpose, such as carrying, using, or bragging, it is worth considering getting rid of them. For example, I have an expensive salt water knife, but I late bought a cheaper knife from a different company that does exactly the same thing and I am not afraid of losing it, as I was the more expensive one. I am getting rid of the expensive one. I have a fixed blade that meets my hunting needs, but I have one that does the same thing by a custom maker that is better for my task, so I am getting rid of the first one. I have a rare, near custom knife that I never, ever use any longer but I keep it because my late mother gave it to me on my college graduation, engraved. It stays. I, too, am down sizing a bit. (just a bit ;) )

If I like a knife, I will keep it. Whether I carry or use it is irrelevant. There are some things I derive enjoyment from simply owning it. Heck, I have guns in my safe that have been there for years and never been fired, but I keep them because I like 'em. If something comes along that I like more, I'll trade or sell to make room if I have to.

For me, if it doesn't get pocket time away it goes. Have a couple knives that have sentimental value but everything else gets it's fair share of work.

If I owned 100 knives,....Geeze I would get rid of 80 or 90 of em. what are you going to do with that may knives? Personally I have around 10 knives and feel I have too many, I don't see that I would ever exceed 20. Sometimes what I do get rid of 4 or 5 $100.00 knives and exchange them for one $500.00 knife, like a CRK or BM Gold Class. maybe you can justify getting rid of some to get one nice one that's value is higher. It wont feel so bad letting go if your getting a really nice knife by doing so.

Get rid of knives? Blasphemy!!

Just kidding, but I used to have a very hard time getting rid of things myself. Even if it had never been used, I always thought "what if", or maybe it would make a nice gift someday, or maybe someday it will be a collector's item. It used to drive me nuts. I am much better about it now, and have no problem thinning the herd once in a while. I would say if you haven't used it in a long time, and it is not a collector's piece or something with sentimental value, get rid of it. You will be glad you did. Besides, it makes more room to buy other knives! :)

Get rid of your best knives by sending them me. I'll dispose of them AND cover shipping. That's the kinda great guy that I am.

Really, I'm not quite getting the question. Get rid of the ones you want to get rid of. We don't know what's a "keeper" characteristic for you.

Been pondering this myself. Want to thin the herd, but hate to part with anything.

Throw out anything that has a "R" in its name. That's what I would do. So that's what you should do.

Or throw out anything that has a saber or scandi grind. I don't like those. If you got tantos, toss those. I think they are silly. Coated blade? Ninja. Toss it. Choil? Hate 'em. Toss. Assisted open? Silly. Toss.

That should get you started.

i agree with some of the post above look the ones that have great sentimental value take those out then the most common edc's then look at what you have left heck it might be something instead of having 100 knives you can sell the ones you dont have to have and end up with 20-50 but have a few customs with the money you make out of it. you know if your just gonna toss em im sure i could take a few off your hands haha

If it doesn't get used it's out the door. Only ones I keep around that I don't use are stuff my grandfather and father owned. And some cool display only knives my Dad bought me in Mexico. I'm sure if I used them the handles would bend. High silver content.

Dupe... can a mod remove my dupes, my internet is screwy. I swear I'm not this slow...

I like the way you think. Have been very seriously debating getting rid of everything but the 2-3 that occasionally find themselves in my pocket.

LOL...If you have 100 knives and have to ask us which ones to sell or give away then you better keep 'em all.
