How do you store/display your knives?

Sweet, only ten replies in before a response insinuating that displaying knives means that thieves will steal them. We usually get at least a page into these "How to display my knife collection" threads before the inevitable thief comment rolls in.

I have a tool box for my fixed blades and bayonets but the folders are spread through out the house. Drives my wife nuts.

Most of them are in boxes in a safe. A few stay at my bedside for my edc carries and ones I just feel like playing with that day. lol

I keep most of my folders in older fine wooden cigar and wine boxes lined with velvet. They can all stack nicely in the vault or come out individually with a full new blade rotation for a while.

I like the Snap-On and Craftsman type multi drawer tool box storage I see a lot, too. Also some of the fine wooden craftsmen's chests for storage.

It's not a bad deal for the money. Certainly not a Gerstner but it does the job. The only complaint I've heard (but not yet experienced) is a tendency for the drawer bottoms to sag if too much weight is stored.

But then I have exactly the same problem. :o

It might be time to get a nice hutch, but not to store china, silver, and dishes...knives.

I don't display knives or firearms. Knives that I have been handling lately frequently are generally placed on a book case shelf. They tend to get buried on my desk eventually. I keep many of the unused knives inside the factory box. The ones that I might actually want to look at (stored ones) are in plastic boxes called "Really Useful Box" which I buy at Office Depot. I also store fishing reels, nicknacks, rolled coins, and other items (pending bills) in them. They aren't cheap for a plastic box, but they are translucent, tough and neat. Most of the larger boxes for fixed blades are stored inside a plastic tote/tub (Rubbermaid) along with some knives I have little interest looking at often. These plastic boxes come in a variety of sizes.

I believe the wood box pictured comes from Harbor Freight.

Some use tool chests and you can go as large as you like and whatever design fits your needs from places like Sears, Lowes, Home Depot and so forth.

I dont display, just keep more expensive ones from damage/dust eg. Sebs, Striders, Autos etc. I use the small Spyderco Spyderpac in a sterilite container. I only have one at the moment but about to buy another one. The great thing is that the Spyderpac fits perfectly into the container, like how you stack folders from left to right. So I can prob do 20 Spyderpacs in one container.

I've been leaning towards getting one of those magnet strips that people use to hold kitchen knives.

Watch out that it doesn't have metal rails that hit the blades... I've chipped more than a few kitchen knives on those when it clicks to the magnet. If you find one with a wood veneer, that would be best.

I use a pelican 1450 when I want to transport or store mine all together. Most of the time though they're scattered around the house and/or in pieces in the garage.

Click the spine onto the magnet first and then lay the flat down and you shouldn't ever have edge contact. :)
