How do you store/display your knives?

Having a hard time finding what I want/ really knowing what I want. I like the gerstner tool boxes, but come on.... if I'm spending that much money it's on a knife. The ones on fleabay are nice, but it's 240 plus 35 shipping, and I have zero idea of build quality. Keep checking back here to hopefully see something and be like BAM! That's it!

Look into the Harbor Freight version. Mine was <$80. It's not a Gestner but it does the job just fine for a quarter of the cost.

I got a Harbor Freight model, be forewarned the quality is low. I went through 3 before I got one that did NOT come broken. Also just a FYI the local store told me that the stores have nothing to do with the website. After driving back and forth to the store 4 times, I told them I now had over 30$ in gas invested--true--and I wanted then to inspect the next one to insure it had none of the problems of the first 3, and ship it to me, and they said 'we don't ship stuff' to which I replied ya'll ship stuff all the time, I've gotten a ton of stuff shipped to me from you website. Well that's when they said they were in no way related to the website. Long story short, I got them to mail me one after all, but it was clear they hadn't inspected it, but fortunately it wasn't cracked or otherwise malfunctioning so I have kept it despite a few minor flaws, and it does a good job for storing most of my knives.

BTW they frequently run sales flyers with a coupon for 25% off one item coupons. If you buy one with that, it brings the price down to a nice reasonable level.

I don't have that many knives I display, but I like to use small dish easels for displaying 6-8 of them on shelves. I've found that a couple types/sizes will hold about anything. I did try a stacked wood stand that was pretty cheap on ebay, and I did some work on it to straiten it out, but the problem is most knives vary greatly by size/shape so it makes it hard for a good fit on a universal rack. Shadow boxes would be interesting, I've always wanted to try that route, though to me knives seem just "off" displayed on a wall. Never liked the idea of a drawer setup I like to actually display them.

As for the theft thing, I have lots of other valuables that I enjoy that I'm not going to lock up in safes for fear of theft. That said, I have worked with my insurance agent to ensure that those items that would not be covered under a normal policy are listed separately on a rider. When it comes to things like sporting goods, knives, watches, jewelry, guns most standard policies are VERY lacking in coverage especially for an enthusiast in any of those hobbies. Most people have no idea what their insurance really covers and they don't maintain off site copies of their receipts and photos/videos of their possessions and get a rude awakening if a theft should occur.

It's a hassle to do, especially the first time, and it requires updating once a year or so, but it's worth the peace of mind. Also expect to pay for it, if you have a lot of $ in knives, guns, toys you can expect those rider policies to be more expensive than the rest of your home owners/renters insurance combined. I'd much rather do that than have everything I enjoy locked away out of sight all the time.

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of with the harbor freight model. I called the local one and they said they were out, but should have 2 coming in tomorrow. I'll have to check it out. And yeah, I won't pick it up without that coupon.

I bought these two stackable craftsman boxes last year for $200 - $300. They bolt together on the inside and lock. Also got some rubbery mats so nothing gets scratched or slides around. It's fairly secure, holds quite a bit and looks decent. I store my ammo and other accessories and large fixed blades in the lower cabinet. My wife has relegated it to a walk in closet, but that's fine. I can drink a beer and look at them all at the end of the week.

sorry if the pics are too huge

No, not the one on top of the case. The black handled fixed blade inside the case.

Its a Hibben Toothpick. As seen in the movie The Expendables. I bought one for my dad, and also the other knife in the same case (Hibben Expendables Bowie). The toothpick is a beast of a blade. Its bigger than it looks in the pic.

I picked up a silverware storage case with a slide out drawer at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Works perfect and my wife is finally ok with all my knives being out on to the dresser.

I store my EDC knives in a plastic tackle box. It easily stores 16 large folders, maybe 24 if they aren't too thick. If I was storing shorter knives like the Sage I could probably fit 36 in there. This box is by Plano and they even have a carrying case available that carries something like 4 of these. So a person could easily carry 144 of their favorite folders with them.

I don't display any knives. I would like to have a room where I could have shelves with all of my knives out on them but I can't imagine how I would do that and not worry about them.

My knives are in here, unless they are in a dedicated location (e.g., a bug out bag or other pack or bag, my truck, my night stand, etc.):
