how does Frost Cutlery make their knives so cheap?

Because they are made in China by political prisoners in large factory prisons.

Here is the scenario:

A Chinese Christian is caught with a Bible, they sentence him or her to life in prison doing forced labor producing substandard products for WAL-Mart and Chef Tony to sell to Americans.

A freinds aunt is a mission nun in china...they must be letting her out of prison when she comes state side to visit?
She also looked pretty health and happy last time i saw her (aged nearly 80) and couldnt wait to get back. I'll ask her what her cell is like next time i see her.

i laugh when they have the quotes in smokey mountains catalog about all the knives that they donate to the troops,,( all the different manufacturers that have their crap in the catalog have a little bio, or did) anyway, I guess Frost donates knives to the troops,,,and I always think when i read it,,it's cool that he does, but hes screwing them over royally...he should donate the crap to the damn enemy...

There is a program where you can buy a knife for a soldier, you pay somethign like half the price and then they send that knife to a soldier for free...Soem of the knives are good but there are a few cheap ones I thought the same thign to myuself like man what if a soldier really depends on a knife in a given situation? Hope they don't have a cheap knife fail on them...

ill buy a ton of those frost knives for the troops as long as they are used for target practice only :D

For the price of a dangerous and crappy folder that cannot hold an edge, he could sell those workers a cheap cutter with a real heat treat.
like this one:

like 3 bucks, and it will outlast any frost cutlery crap, especially when used for real work.

I'll bet the real reason he sold such crappy stuff is because of the huge profit margin.

Haha! Classic....

My question is: How have they stayed in business for so long with such low quality products?

currently there's another thread stating that it's no use spending 300$ on one knife if a 2$-knife will last you 25 years and still have a working blade.

Spending 300 bucks on a knife your going to use for regular cutting chores is like buying a rolex so you now what time your shows on TV.
Like i said Frost knives that i own are OK, not wonderful but if you treat them with respect they WILL cut very well.
Frames (EXCEPT on the steel warrior slippies i have) are not great but the bladesshave hair, cut very aggressivly and dont have bad edge retention.
If your mindful of what your doing they are ok.

I got one of those and used it to cut down the bush in the garden!
They ARE better then most cheep knives, but i think you maligne cheep blades unfairly-if you belt sand past the factory edge (which they overheat when installing i read somewhere) most will take and hold on OK edge.
Badly made liner locks on the other hand...ouch!

They sell knives, lots of knives, as a previous post stated because the vast majority of the public knows NOTHING about knife quality, or good steel. Your average Joe doesn't know the difference between a Frost, a Buck or an SOG; aside from price. The TV shows selling knives display flashy, shiny, wicked looking blades and fast talking good old boys.

I just bought my first Douk douk and cant see why every farm worker in the staes doesnt have one!
almost as Cheep as frost knives and cuts even better then an opinel!
handles not so nice though...
