How far do you live from where you were born?

I was just thinking about this while looking through some old pictures.

I remember some guys in the USAF who went back home as soon as they were discharged. There were others who had no desire to go back to where they were born.

I was born in Los Angeles. Except for 4 years in the USAF, I lived, went to school and worked within 20 miles of where I was born for the first half of my life. When the opportunity arose, I moved to Goleta, CA and spent the next 28 years there. When the opportunity arose again, I moved to AZ.

My children are still in CA, as is my sister and most of my wife's family. My son still lives in Goleta and my daughter is in Oakland. None of them have any desire to leave the PRK.

What's kind of funny is that over the years we went to various places on vacation that I might have wanted to live. The few that stand out are Bend OR, Santa Fe NM, Sedona AZ and Flagstaff AZ. On one trip to Sedona we drove to Prescott just to look around. I never dreamed that I would one day be living within 20 miles of Prescott and 50 miles of Sedona. :D

I live 4 miles from where I was born. Traveled all around the world during 8 years in the USN.

About 3500 miles, I guess.
Born Frankfurt Am Main, Germany. (Army brat)
Live in NC, USA.

This has crossed my mind as well about people in my past and where they are today. I ended up about 90 miles from birthplace, 2 tours 1969-1972 half way around the world, & then traveled the U.S. in search of knocking down pins with a round ball with 3 holes . . . :)
Interesting questions UffDa, interesting.
Be safe.

Born in Fresno, CA ... Still there :(

i now live about 4 miles from the hospital where i was born.

the furthest i have l have lived was a few months i spent in walnut, ca, during the academy.

I live about 300 miles from the city where I was born. I try to go there to visit the family graves each year. There really isn't that much left there for me.

Approximately 75 miles, spent 6 years travelin' around the world for work settled in the state next to the one I was born in.

If I could live anywhere in the US it would have to be within' 2 hours of a coast with 4 seasons, in Europe it would have to be Hungary where I have a large family base, South America, it would be Panama.

But if I stayed here in NEPA I'd be just as happy as I am now.

About 1100 miles. About 35 years ago my parents moved to Florida and had me and 11 years ago I moved back to where they came from. I live 3 miles from where my dad was born.

475 miles. My family moved to another state before I was 12 months old. I have zero association with where I was born. Don't know a thing about the place. But then, by the time I was 8 I had lived in 4 states and 6 cities.

Several times, people have said that I was "from" where I was born. Um, no. I am "from" where I grew up.

Same State, live about 30-40 miles away from where I was born.

Wanted to leave many times - but something always seemed to come up that kept me here.

Uffda I was born and spent the first 19 years of my life west of Prescott AZ in a cabin near Thumb Butte. It was a wonderful place to grow up. When I was 17 I went on a summer long hitch hiking trip through the US and Canada. That was in 1971 and on that trip I decided to make Alaska my home. We have now lived here for 31 years. It was hard leaving family and friends but I consider this move to be one of the best decisions of my life. We now have 8 children (6 adopted) 14 grandchildren and have had 12 relatives move here.

About 100 miles. Born in Burke County, North Carolina and my parents still live there. I moved to Sylva, NC in 1999 to go to college and haven't left.

A couple thousand miles?

Born in Landstuhl, Germany (Air Force brat). Currently in Ames, Iowa.

As the crow flies I'm about 8 miles from the hospital I was born in. I lives about 25 miles away from my home neighborhood but moved to a suburb closer to my home city about 10 years ago.

one of these days I'll get my stuff together and move about 700 miles south. Where I want to be.

Born and raised in south central Pennsylvania - currently living in south west Louisiana.

Same house. Hospital is still the same distance away. I am hoping to move maby 20 miles away into the country. Or 170-200 ish to the beach. But I have always had homes at both.
