How far do you live from where you were born?

Using an Interwebz calculator, it is 518 miles. We're now in Rockville, MD, and I was born in Grand Rapids, MI. This is actually the closest I've lived to Grand Rapids since my early years.

About 500 miles, hmm sounds like an old song? :)
All three of my brothers are also no where near there now either,
army brats the four of us, traveled around a lot, ended up
here in NorthEastern PA.

They always told me that they teach the three 'R's in West Virginia

372 miles for me. MN to IL in 67'. I hope to retire in McMinnville, Oregon or Branson, Missouri.

About 250 miles for me. Born in Door County, WI, live in Hartland, WI. Wisconsin it will be until the day I die. I've seen some of the world, plan to see some more of it, but my family is here now, and I'll keep my family here for a while.

Interesting question.

I was born on the east coast of South Africa in a city called Durban.
I now live on the very bottom of Africa in Cape Town. Which is around a thousand miles from were I was born.

Along the way I spent 12 years overseas in the UK, USA and Canada.

125 miles.
Until we made the move to Bend 4 years ago, I lived in the same town I was born in for 45 years.

I was born in East Lansing, Michigan. But I lived there less than a year before the family moved back to Geneva, IL, which I consider my hometown. Never been back to Lansing, and from what I've seen/heard of it, I have no desire to (no offense, Ren).

I live about 20 miles from the hospital where I was born. I live about 10 miles from the house where I grew up. I guess I haven't made a lot of progress in 44 years, except to gain 300 pounds. :grumpy:

1,000 miles. I was born in Lakewood CA and grew up in Downey. We travelled a lot while I was growing up and I fell in love with Oregon. I moved there at my first opportunity and would never consider moving back. My family is still there so I visit once in a while but it is not a place I enjoy visiting.

Several times, people have said that I was "from" where I was born. Um, no. I am "from" where I grew up.

You got that right!

I was born on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain as I often say, in Bucharest, Romania. Came to New York and then New Jersey soon after when I was about 4 or 5 years old.
Spent my formative years in North Jersey.
Later on lived a few years in Germany. Been living in New Zealand for the last 15 years, just about.
Been to many many different countries though.

But I'll always be "from" New Jersey.

My mother told me that I'd lived in 13 different houses or apartments when I was 13. We'd get a rental house or apartment, they'd buy a house, and my dad would get transferred again. I've moved 10 more times since then, plus lived in three different Army barracks.
Been here over 5 years, and am 39, so I guess the last one was the 26th move in 34 years.
My house is less than 30 miles from the hospital I was born in.

I live 20 miles from my birth place. I never had intended to move back home when I was discharged from the USAF mainly because I was stationed 1 1/2 hours from my home in NJ. I had tried everything I could to get out to Washington state. Aside from my tours of duty in the Gulf, NJ is where I stayed though I did volunteer for any TDY that came up.

And then I met my wife. :)

When it was time for me to make a decision as to what to do after the military I opted to stay in NJ and serve my hometown as a cop or firefighter. I took both tests and scored #2 on the LEO exam and #3 on the Fire exam. I chose the fire dept.

When I retire I plan on moving out of NJ to a small town somewhere in PA.

Right now I'm about the length of a football field away from where I grew up.I spent my childhood and about the first 18 years of adult life within 5 miles of here, then I got a chance to move to western NY,spent 10 years there and decided it was time to go back to where I came from.I've traveled most of the states east of the Mississippi and a couple west and I really haven't seen anywhere that I'd rather live although there are a lot of places that I like spending time when I get the chance.

I live around 600 miles from Louisville, KY where I was born. Parents moved from there to Georgetown, SC when I was a couple months old. I live in the house they bought when we moved here.

About 900 miles, lived further away in the past. Born in Provo, Utah live in the Seattle area. Steven

2906 miles by MapQuest reckoning. Born in Modena NY, live in the SF Bay Area, home for the last 40 years.

Since moving away to college, I've been between 150 miles and 300 miles from my place of birth. Currently 150 miles.
