How is hunting season going?

Nice Stag. What did your stag score? I’m headed that way in the spring of 2025.

Nice Stag. I think we are booked to shoot up to 350 and the sliding scale starts after that 🤣
We went to estancia el Carrizal, their policy was was any size you got in the free range area was the same price and they guaranteed to put you on a 7x7 minimum, but there was no price increase no matter the size. If you went in the high fence the pricing was by the size range. I decided to stick to the free range. It was an amazing hunt, what lodge are you headed to?

We are hunting out of San Eduardo Lodge. Meeting up with Outfitter at DSC in January to finalize dates. I might PM you direct for any lessons learned.

Amazing hunt TENTEX TENTEX
Fantastic looking trophies.

I’m a lot jealous, a little bummed but glad. Haha.

I got to spend 3 months in Africa during 2019-2020. I had my hunt all set up for kudu, warthog and impala, but had to catch the last plane out during the covid nonsense, and the hunt never happened. It was scheduled for the week after I had to leave.

So thank you for posting your amazing adventure that brought back a flood of great memories. I wouldn’t trade my time in Africa for anything!

Good luck on your next trip.

My niece was able to harvest her first deer this year. Don't know if I have ever seen her smile like that before. I didn't get any pics of it but she smacked a nice doe at about 90 yards with a 450 Bushmaster. She made a great shot and the doe didn't make it 20 yards before piling up. It has been a great season and we still have a bit of archery time left.

Went on a moose hunt in October of 2022 in Newfoundland. Got a nice bull moose after a few days. The 5mi death march to get on him was not fun. He finally arrived here in the past few days and is now posted up over the fireplace.

Elk snip.jpg

Had a great time. It was cold on the drive in and started snowing. Arrived the afternoon before, and then the guide took me up on a mountain shelf to glass over the proposed hunting area. We sat for about an hour watching the sun go down. It was amazing to see hundreds of elk coming down off some native lands into the private ground we were going to hunt. Out glassing point was over 5 miles from the hunting area but the closest point to overlook it.
Opening day had 10+ inches on the ground and it was -8 in the morning. We got up on to the mountain, and had 2 spotters working for us, from a higher elevation. The elk were there and some more groups had come overnight. We had about a mile hike to get out to a point that overlooked 2 valleys. As the cold morning went on we were seeing movement in 2 different places.

At one point we stalked to within 380 yards of a 6 x 6. I missed high. I was sick. 8,600 ft elevation, bitter cold, fogged glasses, heart rate and breathing all accelerated. I should have checked my zero at that elevation in the cold. The rancher did not have a range. Next time....

So we hustled over to another rocky ridge and got ahead of a smaller group of about 55 - 65 elk. This bull gave me a shot at 347 yards and this time I did not dial the elevation up as far on the Leupold Mark VHD. Hit dead center mass a little back. He hunched, walked 10 paces and i hit him again in the spine. That was it!

There was a lot more to it, but that's a little taste.

Nice pics guys.

I ended this deer season with a nice 10 point and a couple does. The highlight was taking my middle son out and watching him take his first deer. He put a nice shot on a big doe at about 120 yards and dropped her in her tracks.

For those of you who haven’t tried one yet, the new 400 legend is no joke. Easy recoil even for the young hunters and it stops whitetail where they are standing.

Nice job to you both!
