How is this even possible

It's not a theory, and I'm not here to prove anything.
I've done business with Chinese manufacturers many times over the years, and visited several facilities personally.
You believe what you want.
I speak from experience.

Ah. You are the final authority. Got it.

Workers make next to nothing, those knives are mass produced in a factory using equipment that some past mfg contract paid for, out of scrap metal, and leftover pieces.
Companies get subsidized to keep the machines running, and the workers working.
China isn't a free market.
It's not about profit. It's about keeping the workers busy and poor.

The Government controls all industry, and has their fingers in everything.
Sorry, but it isn't the 1950's anymore.
Check your "facts".

China has the fastest growing economy in the world. If the Chinese workers were being paid "slave wages", that would not be the case.
Workers in China may be paid less than a worker in the USA, but they also have a lower cost of living.

The Chinese government does not control or own all the factories and other manufacturing facilities.
As for them "having their fingers in everything" do you honestly think any Government doesn't? Industry and agriculture here is regulated moreso.

(I know a guy who moved his ship yard for making multi-million dollar yachts (and customizing/restoring existing vessels) from Florida to China. If the Chinese government was going to take control of his company, he would never have moved there. Corporate taxes and lower costs of operation are just some of the reasons he went there.)
