How long is long enough for you?

I'd like to see more, larger blades out there. With modern manufacturing and locking mechanisms I feel folders are still viable past the 5 inch mark.

I tend not to buy anything below 3 inches as it doesn't feel substantial but I am more likely to buy a knife if it tops 3.75. At the same time weight is a consideration, so I want to have my cake and eat it too. Fortunately there are some manufacturers offering up viable options.

I have an Al Mar Eagle Talon on the way, we'll see if that one appeals with it's 4 inch blade but very light weight.

Usually 3-3.5'', Big enough for what I use it for, but still fits on my pocket with al the other junk I tote around

Like with women, I don't have too much of a preference. Sometimes I like a little more meat, sometimes I like them more petite. Really depends on the mood/the day. I've been getting by just fine with a ~2.5" Case mini trapper lately
`

Anything from 2.5" to 4". Nothing bigger though as it seems to inhibit the overall usefulness. For instance, I find a Spyderco Military to be my limit size-wise for a folder.

I've yet to encounter a task in my daily routine which couldn't be accomplished with a 3" blade, and I'm also a small fellow so portability is relatively important. 3-3.5" is long enough for me.

2 7/8ths inches FTW! A pocket knife is carried often and used little. So why go overkill and carry a folding machete? It seems uneccesary to me.

Well the legal carry limit for where I am is 3" so most of the time I'm limited to that or under. But when it comes down to it, I'm a smaller guy and my hands aren't the biggest in the world to say the least so I optimal for me is about 2.5-2.75.

I can get by just fine with a 2" blade, but prefer something in the 2 1/2" to 3" range for the more comfortable handle. 3 1/2" is the legal limit here so that's the max I will normally go to.

I have always wondered why the closed length isn't the focused on dimension for a folding knife. Some manufactures don't even list it in the knife specs.

Funny thing is, when I started getting interested in traditional folders I noticed that is what they list, not the blade length. It was a little confusing at first since I was used to most modern knives being listed by blade length. I guess this is a byproduct of modern knife carry laws. Now I find myself more concerned with the closed length and how it will ride in the pocket than how long the blade is. I know that all of my daily cutting needs can be handled by almost any size blade.

I prefer blades closer to the 4 inch mark. Either slighty under, at or over. I find myself stearing away from smaller blades lately, and kinda disappointed more manufacturers
dont seem to making anything bigger than 3-3 1/2. The other criteria I find myself leaning towards are slim, non-bulky handles,....
...but I guess that's for a different thread.;)

I hear yah, I miss the olden days of the Cuda Maxx:), or the Rekat Sifu. Man, I loved those big blades.

Depends on the task my edc consist of a blade-tech mouse (1 1/2") and a Strider smf 4" but the smf also serves as an sd knife.

My upper limit is 4". A lot of people swear by the 3.8" Fallkniven F1. I know the F1 isn't a folder, but it shows that 3.8" is sufficient to survive.

3.25 to 3.5 inches is ideal for me. I love larger knives, but in the real world, that range is more than enough for me. If there's any kind of abusive work, I'd use a tough 4.5" - 6" beater fixed blade.

I don't purposely look for a particular blade length but I find I tend to gravitate towards folders around 3 to 4 inches give or take half an inch. Any knife with a blade longer than 5" in my possession is a fixed blade.

I've been using this little Wharncliffe slipjoint with a 2" blade regularly for months, and I haven't run across a single task that made me wish for something larger. It's surprising how much you can accomplish with knife of this size once you get used to it.

I Like Folders with At Least a 4 inch Blade,I Usually Won't Buy Smaller. I Carry A Crawford Perfigo with a 4.5 inch Blade. Although David Mosier Made a 5.25in. Bladed Folder For Me I Liked ALOT, It Was a Wicked Knife.

My folders fall into the 3-4 inch blade length range .
Its not so much length as width in a folders blade that is my issue .. I go for hi carbon folders simply for the slim blade for the length .
Okapi , opinels 10 , and lately a svord peasant .
