how low can you go... your favorite, cheapest, high value folder?

Oh, you guys hit the sweet spot with this thread... I love to find a good knife at an affordable price. There are really too many to choose from but I guess the top 3 are:

Spyderco Tenacious
Ontario Rat-1
SAK Cadet (carried the most)
CRKT Drifter
Kershaw Skyline

I couldn't stop at 3...

For me, hands down, it is the Remington Heavy Gauge Working Mans Large Stockman with Green Stag handle. (Item # 17519) Around $19 + shipping. One of the only knives that i have not had to sharpen when new, or yet for that fact. RAZOR sharp.

Again you can go past a K55K mercator,...

German made bullet proof, sharp as shit, been made for the last 120 years or so,..

Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter. Highly affordable, lightweight, low profile, razor sharp, multiple color options...what more could you ask for??

To be honest, I've been very pleasantly surprised with a few cheaper knives (tenacious, sog flash, delica, CRKT ripple, rat1) but I prefer to have 2-3 nice knives rather than 10 cheaper ones. The cheapest I'll go is the para2, mainly because I think spending $100 dollars now and having a nice knife that lasts me 5-10 years isn't a bad investment :)

believe it or not some newer knife colectors consider knives like the tenacious to be as "Nice" as you consier the paramilitary 2.

Ones I have that are $30.00 or under that I love:

- Waved, fully serrated Endura4 I got off the exhange
- Opinel #8 - slicing bliss!
- Rat 1 of course; gave it to my dad and he uses that knife like crazy
- Japanese Carpenter's Knife from Lee Valley (a bit overpriced, but still awesome)
- many kershaw's fit the bill here; cryo, etc....
- SAK driver, tinker

That's it for now!

The lowest price I've paid for a decent knife is around $10: SAK, Opinel, Buck, Rough Rider.

In addition to all the great ~$30 suggestions that have already been made, I'd add the disco'd Red Class Benchmade titanium Pika 2 to the list.

havent seen one of those in a long time. when did you pick those up?

I have a bunch of knives that cost very little but are great knives none the less.
In fixed blades I bought a Mora HighQ Allround in Carbon and in Stainless for $10 & $11 - they are freakin' great! Very comfy handles and wickedly sharp blades (esp the carbon one).
In multi-tools I have some really nice Victorinox SAKs that didn't cost much but are incredibly useful.

What was the question? Oh yeah, high value folders:

Opinel - I have a #4, #6 & #9 in carbon and a #8 with walnut handle in stainless. I can't adequately express just how good these are for the money, they are absolutely fantastic value! Just after buying them I was at my mother's place for Xmas and cutlery was running short, I needed a steak knife so I reached into my pocket and pulled out my #6, that sharp little bugger slices through the steak so easily that it seems like it had been designed to be the perfect steak knife! Luckily I remembered I had it, it is so small & light I could barely tell I had it. I use my #9 to slice tomatoes, it has a good patina on it now - and it slices the tomatoes much easier than my serrated steak knives in the kitchen drawer.

Rat I - I bought one of these for $25.99 and a while later I saw a link to a site selling them for $20.99 so I bought a 2nd one. Both are plain edge satin finish, I don't like serrations and I'm not a fan of the black paint model. My first one has had the clip removed, it's more comfortable on the hand, on the 2nd one I left the clip on for the convenience of having a clip. They both sharpen up to a really good sharp edge, they both fly open and lock solidly. For a good strong one-handed opening, locking folder - how could you get better value than the Rat 1? I love this knife and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

My favorite cheap knives would have to be SAK's then my Sanrenmu's.
