As knife knuts we almost always have at least one on us at all times, well, maybe not when asleep! But I am curious about 1) how many do you carry, normally, and
2) how many is the most you carry. Please tell us the when and why. I'll start.

My normal carry is a SAK and a traditional folder. 90% of the time, even when at home lollygagging, I carry these two.
The most I carry is four when out hunting. Fixed blade hunter/skinner, large modern OHO, plus the normal two SAK and traditional folder.

Usually two or three. A medium sized traditional folder, a modern folder clipped to a pocket, and sometimes a very small traditional in the watch pocket.

Oh, and there's a SAK Rambler on my keychain, so I guess that makes four.

Doesn't everyone?

What good is a pocket without a knife? And I still wear cargo pants even though I'm retired. I have to admit, since I did retire, I have cut back some, down to a dozen or so, and they've gotten smaller as well, but I still never lack a sharp edge.

Why so many? Because I can. The most I'll carry? Twelve pounds.

For many years I only had 1 knife to carry and I carried it every day . Since 2010 , I have had a few more knives and I usually carry 2 folders . When Spring comes I will have 2 folders over 3.62 " long in my pockets and a fixed blade as a neck knife or in the Gator glove box . My Family and my friends all know that I will have a knife with me to briefly borrow . If we are out with friends for Dinner , I will have a smaller knife or 2 in my pockets .

Several have mentioned that those around you may need a knife for a job. Do you lend them the knife, or do you cut it for them?
I'm very hesitant to hand someone a knife of mine when they don't carry their own, so I usually offer to cut it for them.
It just depends on who it is . Some people are not even safe using a butter knife .

I am pretty much like you, Jeff. Vic Alox Cadet plus another slip-joint, usually a Case Trapper (regular or mini), medium Stockman, or Jack.

When I need to cut down cardboard boxes for the trash, which is my most common non-culinary cutting task these days, I add a full-sized Case Sod Buster, the original black-handled one with the blade etch. Buck 301 sometimes gets that duty.

Regarding the followup question - I don't recall ever loaning out a pocket knife to anyone. It just never comes up. I am not in situations where that need arises. Pretty much the only person who knows I tend to carry pocket knives is my wife, and if she needs something cut, she either does it herself with her own pocket knife, or a box cutter, or would ask me to cut whatever it was. She's pretty self-sufficient in that regard since I have given her several knives over the years. About all I get asked to do is to sharpen hers.

I would not be inclined to hand over one of my knives to someone, if it did come up. I keep them pretty sharp and people in general are not used to knives being really sharp.

I'll ask what they want cut, and usually cut it for them (I once had someone say they needed to tighten a screw so I was glad I asked first 😒) Otherwise, that's what the little SAK on the keychain is for.
