how many do u carry?

A work day kind of looks like a knife wonderland, a variable knife goodness explosion . . . we are talking KNIFEARAMA ! (ok i'll stop now) :
(not counting the neck knife that comes off once I ride to work )
SAK Mini Champ left back or front pocket depending wheather I am riding or not.
Para2 M4 (usually or some other similar super steel clip on) right front.
Boker Large Stockman bottom of right front (just recently) or nothing usually.
SAKs in belt pouch on left side :
  • Explorer
  • Mechanic
  • Bantom
Lock back to lend; thin, medium/small, stainless handle, basic knife that I found; belt pouch with many other tools right rear

Rarely another belt pouch right even more rear with a Buck 110 or my Grail Brad Zinker Urban Trapper with thick KreyEx handle scales. Or in this same pouch a knife with Super steel like a Ritter Griptillian with the clip removed and no knife in right front pocket. The latter happens quite often.

Too many ? Yeeesssssss . . . some are for fun but most I use the hell out of. For the ride home they are mostly off my person. I would post photos but most everyone has seen these until they are sick to the teeth of them.

I don't get this pervasive theme of people being perplexed by someone carrying more than they need. Every time this question comes up lots of people pop up asking for what uses someone could possibly have for XXXX amount of knives, like they need to have an expected use for every knife.

We only need one reason: we like knives. As long as it isn't a burden, and doesn't inconvenience your life, and doesn't harm anyone, and you enjoy it, then why not?

I much prefer to ask "Why not" than restrict myself with "why".

I always have a Victorinox SwissCard Lite in my wallet as a last backup. It has so many useful tools that I use often, least of which the knife. I always have my Spyderco Ladybug on my keys. I do use it, but it's mostly sentimental. I almost always have a little multi tool on my keychain also. For a while it was a Tactical Keychains TUKK, for a while a Victorinox Classic, a Leatherman Squirt for a long while, now a Victorinox Midnite Manager. I almost always, basically if it's legal and I'm not at some prohibitive social function, carry a modern clipped one hand open knife (Spyderco Police 4, Titanium Native, Chokwe, ZT 0561, etc.) in my right front pocket and a medium or large traditional in my back right pocket. This varies the most and is between a bunch of GEC, Queen, Case, etc. I often have a small traditional (GEC, Queen, Case) or very small modern (Spyderco Roadie, Cold Steel Micro Recon) in my watch pocket. Sometimes I'll have another traditional in a different pocket, if I feel like it, but not that often. I rarely but sometimes carry a fixed blade on my belt or in place of the modern folder. Finally in my work bag I have a Cold Steel Kudu and Victorinox Huntsman.

I enjoy knives. If I don't carry them I can't use them and it's harder to enjoy them. So I carry them. If it becomes a burden or inconvenience, I carry less. Me carrying a bunch of knives detracts from no one's life.

I usually carry 2. One modern folder and one traditional usually in a leather slip and both in my front right pocket. Depending what I am doing, I would also have a leatherman on my belt too.

One good folder and one small pocket tool/prybar.
I used to carry 2-3 at a time or a multitool. But soon found it to be pointless and heavy. The older I get, I find that Less is More.

I carry only one.
Most of the time I carry a CRK (either a small Inkosi or a large 21), at some occasion a ZT or a Spyderco.... 0630 and PM2 are just so fun :)

It happens that I have a SAK at hand in a bag when I am traveling around but that is it.

On duty: Gerber multi-tool on belt, Leatherman Micra on key ring, serrated blade Spyderco Harpy clipped on my vest (meant for emergencies and works great on flexi-cuffs, but rarely used), ZT 301 right back pocket, Cold Steel X2 Voyager (old model) right sap pocket.

Off Duty: Buck 309 front left pocket, Victorinox Alox Farmer in clip sheath in my right front pocket, and a Spyderco Military or Al Mar Ultra-Light Eagle or Benchmade AFO clipped in my right back pocket.

On my person - only one knife at time (multi-bladed slip joint). In my keyring I got Victorinox alox classic sd in case I don’t feel like carrying knife (ooooooh!). Sometimes when I take my satchel I also got Victorinox SwissTool spirit.

I carry two or three. I always have a sak on me and most of the time i have a medium to large locking folder. Sometimes i add a traditional Slipjoint.
Truthfully I could get by with just the sak, they see the most use. But hey i like knives.

I've been doing three lately. I've had a Buck 110 on my belt for a long time, a smaller blade (usually a GEC or Buck 501) in my front pocket and recently a ZT 0566 in my back pocket since my BM North Fork got sent in for weak omega springs. The 110 and 0566 really feel like overkill when I carry them together, but I tried leaving the 110 home and I just couldn't. All in all, having too many knives that I want to carry is a dilemma I'll gladly take :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I carry a multitool ALWAYS. I've found that having a small brace of tools, including a blade, to be indispensable.

I usually carry a 3.25"-4" folder in my right pocket, the multitool clipped to my left or on my belt, and that usually gets me through the day.

That said, knives seem to multiple and stow away without my knowing. I emptied my pockets last night and found two ZTs, had Rebar on my belt, a SOG tool in my left pocket, and a small khukuri stuffed in my back pocket...no joke.

I think I kept grabbing them off my nightstand as I was rushing out the door. The khuk was for cutting up a bunch of boxes at work.

Usually two, a small folder like a SA and a small fixed blade. Sometimes I will carry an Opinel 6, and a three bladed stockman. I have tried a few KSF pocket sheaths to place both in, carry in my left front pocket. I like having both even if I do not use the small fixed blade.

However I have experienced how good it feels to just have a light blade for smaller things without too much weight. When we trailer camp, all I needed that time was my Alox SA, it handled all the small chores and I did not have to unpack my fixed blade from my backpack. It was there if I needed it, and I like a good solid knife, but it got me thinking if I could get by with just light gear to handle my cutting and cooking needs. My needs are different than others, that has to be said. I have a Mora that I want to take next time we go camping, want to see how well it does for food prep and cooking. So maybe it boils down to what you just plain like, what will meet your needs adequately, taking your skill set into consideration, and how you want to carry them. Just some thoughts. Everyone is different, what works for them.

I'm a minimalist so only two, a modern folder clipped to my right pocket and a Vic classic in my watch/coin pocket of my pants.

On any given day two or three multi-blade traditionals, a Buck 110, and I just added a RAT 1 to the mix ... so four or five.
Why? Different blade profiles, of course.
No one profile is "ideal" for all cutting tasks.

One, my DPX HEST in my left pocket every day. I have a EDC HKP2K 9mm on my right hip. I am a U S Military firearms instructor and travel the border daily.
how do you like your DPX Hest? I think I'm gonna pick one up in the left-handed model.
