How many (here) plant a garden?

I'm nervous lol. it's suppose to drop on sunday to below 39 degrees. I'm thinking I will have to cover all the non cold tolerant plants :(

what happened this thread is dying. did you guys lose your green thumbs or what :)

broccoli is off and running

cabbage is doing it's thing!

Peony looking beautiful :)

Garlic is booming! I had almost 100 percent success this year!!

tomatos and peppers looking good

and my chocolate peppers are really going well. I bought a few of these starts as I had never seen them before.

Our potatoes are taking off, so are the other things (went ahead an planted some 'maters and broccoli as well, but haven't taken pictures of them all yet) corn, onions, all starting to come through nicely,

Taters & 'maters...mm,mm,mm.:)

You guys are lucky to be able to grow your own.I live in an apartment so no garden for me.

I'd love to have the space some of you guys have! Awesome gardens! Just got my first JK ( knatchet, a blade I've been been wanting for a long while now)

Just started my spring/ summer garden, it's nice to have a longer growing season than most places ( not much of a worry about frost here) , but FULL sun here is a bit more than most plants can really handle.

Here's my ( from left to right) purslane, okra, collard greens, mustard greens and Swiss chard. In the containers are tomatoes, carrots and a lycee tree

On the side I have lettuce and Kale ( needs the less strong sunlight there), in the front, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower

Spare time...I read about that once :p

Our corn's coming in well now, some watermelons showed up as if they had just forgotten to start all along and so did the broccoli, in fact everything seems to be at least trying this year very happy:)

Everything for me is growing well now except my green beans. I'm about to drop in 2 more rows because the first is looking pathetic lol.

Congrats on the Knatchet, Jordan!

Well some of the broccoli heads were looking delicious and one was getting ready to bolt so I figured I go ahead and harvest a few for lunch :)

Rest of the garden is doing well. Cabbage is starting to form up. Peppers got some little guys growing. And garlic has scales shooting up and I can't wait to make a stir fry with these and maybe a few salads (with 300 of them coming I'm sure I'll have to get creative)

My garden is slow to get out of the blocks. We've had a cool spring, then we had some crazy torrential rains. My cukes all died, had to replant them. The tomatoes are starting to get growing. The rest of the stuff is coming along slowly...

We had a very cool spring also. nice compared to last year lol. the drought was horrible and ungodly hot. My stuff has really started to take off except well my green beans still aren't popping wtf!! maybe the seeds are no good now. this is the 3rd year of use for them. I'll give them a few more days before I hit the store and buy some new ones.

the rest of the garden is doing great. I'm so ready for fresh fruits and veggies on the daily.

Won't be long before I got some new potatoes

Scapes are getting good sized already since they just started showing 3-4 days ago. these are delicious if you guys haven't had them. they have a great mild garlic/green onion flavor. you can probably find them at your local farmers market in the next few weeks

garlic is doing great. I can't wait for this. it's 1000 times better than store bought. if you don't grow it grab some from the farmers market and try the different varieties. some of my favorites are Siberian, Bogatyr, spanish roja, and purple Italian

cabbage is forming up well

broccoli is finally getting big minus the plants I harvested. I think they grew to quick under the grow lights and went to fruiting before it was ready.

tomato's are getting big and flowering like crazy. even got some baby's forming up. won't be long on the fried green tomatos :)

Peppers are starting to produce. decent sized peppers. I can't wait. I love walking out the garden and picking them.

Asparagus is still trying to produce and putting out some big boys. I'll probably pick these even though it's a little late.

and last but not least my first apples ever. they didn't produce the first 2 years but this year they have a good amount on them. these are honey crisp and my favorites (stupid expensive in the store so I'm pumped) there are some big ones already too!

That looks like a good start already. And apples to boot!

First pepper of the season!! Mucho nacho pepper. it's a good bit hotter than the jalapeño!. also been harvesting a good amount of scapes and throwing them in pretty much anything I'm cooking and eating them raw in salads. basically taste like a spicy green onion.

I envy you guys. Some really nice gardens. :)

When we lived down in La., I had a 2 seasonal gardens every year. But up here? None. The soil is extraordinarily rocky as this was once an area of volcanic activity. No way to lay out a conventional garden so most people ranch. Those that want a small family garden usually form up an area with logs and truck in topsoil to form an "above ground" garden. Bigger versions of this:

But then the critters (mostly deer who come in herds of up to 40 at a time) will mow down your garden unless you surround it with a tall electric fence. And we're at 8000 ft, so certain crops do well, but only for a short growing season. Maybe one day, but for now too much trouble. But your gardens have me yearning for one again...

I WAS growing Pico De Gallo (Tomatoes, Onions, Jalapenos and Serranos). The tomatoes died, err, well they were eaten by horn worms, the onoins are still good, the Jalapenos and Serrano's were doing great and was about ready to pick my first batch. Then, night before last, a Mexican white-tailed deer devoured almost all of my jalapeno's and half the Serranos (My hispanic wife said they must have been Mexican Deer because they targeted the peppers). I also have lots of Chile Petin's growing but they come up volunteer every year and I just planted a Satsuma Orange Tree...well see how that goes over.
The Chile Petin plant photo because photo's are required no? :)
