How many (here) plant a garden?

Nice Ky! nothing like fresh potatoes. My wife and a friend always make potato soup and they will swear up and down the fresh potatoes make all the difference in the world.

Ps I wish my garden grew knives like that. Where did you find those seeds :)
JK magic beans!

I can't recall what the big flowers are called, they were a gift several years ago from my Mother-In-Law, but the flowers look like this...

well my cabbages are the best I have ever had. I'm hoping this will translate into the best sauerkraut ever also :)

some big heads this year and probably the juiciest I have seen. it's my first time growing the early jersey wakefields (I think that's what they are called)

A few more :)

Decided to cheat this year and shred them with the kitchen aid but I may have to get me a old school mandolin instead. it shreds it a bit smaller pieces than I like but it was 100 times better than my kitchen aid mandolin which just doesn't do a good job

Put 35 pounds in the crock this year. *hopefully the are done in about 4 weeks so I can grab more from the local farmers market and put another batch in. *I love the kraut and put cook it often. *I would like to try a batch with some onions and crushed red pepper mixed in but the wife keeps saying no

My garden is finally starting to pop a little. The rain has been pretty bad at times. The good summer heat and sun is helping.

Cukes are growing...

I got just one zucchini and one summer plant. Got a nice zucchini growing...

Some cherry tomatoes

My asparagus, which won't be ready till next year, is starting pretty well...

Some of the gardens you guys have are great!

Man ohhh Man finally some rain lol. my garden is still doing great and these warmer nights finally got my tomato's turning red and yellow. good stuff. I been stupid busy and the weeds are trying to take over. however I did manage to get out there and pick beans. Got to start replacing last years stock lol. some peppers are coming in good now too. basil is rediculous and going crazy. this has been a good year so far.

I think on this go round I put up 35 pints and like 15 quarts or so. a mix of Italian bush beans and contender bush beans. they are doing pretty well considering all of them were blown over. I think next year I'm going to start putting them in the little cheap tomato cages. buy a couple 60 when they go on sale lol

Just a few beans :)

and some canning work! damn I need a partner lol. wife and the little one left me to go get some sleep!

Ky great stuff. I'm about to dig some potatoes soon I think. The heat has really wore them down. it looks like most are on the final leg. tomorrow I'm going to pull all my garlic as the weeds are taking it over and the leaves are mostly brown now.

there is nothing like fresh veggies and stuff from the garden!!

First bunch of Japanese Eggplant...they produced really well for me last year and hopefully this is the first of several harvests.

Everything got messed up this year with planting due to very late spring going straight into summer. So I didn't get any of the seeds into the ground that I was planning. Everything already established carried on and as usual, potatoes sprang up again from where they'd been planted 2 or 3 years ago. So I've got grapes on the way, had a great (but late) strawberry crop, blackcurrants just on final ripening, the herb garden is going great, just the sorrel didn't come back this year after winter, mind it has been 6 years since first planted. With Asparagus, you must leave the first years shoots or the plant will never bear again.

Maybe a bit off topic but I went out to water my Chile Pequin's, Jalapenos and Serrano's yesterday and noticed that half of my Pequin bush was gone! a quick look and I found seven of these little thieves:

I put them all in a bowl and placed it under the bird feeder. I actually enjoyed watching the Grackles much on them...

Hey Grunt,

Do you braid the garlic?

No sir but I only grow hard neck garlics so no opportunity to do it. If you want to braid it you need to grow a soft neck.

Those tomato worm pictures are awesome. They are crazy looking and will devastate your crop. If you see one there are 15 more. I usually feed em to the chickens.

Jason, I hate those hornworms with a passion. When I see them, I pull them off the plants with a pair of pliers...

JasonP those are some beautiful photos. Well done. Lurking in this thread constantly makes me hungry.

Pliers isn't a bad idea. I pull them of by hand. I had one last year bite the @#$% out of my finger and brought blood. Those suckers have strong jaws. You wanna see something funny though, poke them with the tip of your knife lightly a couple of times right above the "horned end" (about 2/3'rds down his side). The first couple of times, they'll just turn around and try and bite your knife. After a few pokes though, they break out in what my daughter calls the "horned worm dance" wiggling their head back and forth with enough force to shake the whole bush. It's kinda funny to watch. I've seen them do this when the parasitic wasps attack them too. Wasps, love them too. The parasitic wasps lay eggs on them (which ultimately eats the worm) and the rad wasps and paper wasps just kill them. Good wasps...lol
