How many knives does the average BF member own?

Well I have found my favorites, and I have counted around 31 folders and 21 fixed blades with 2 more fixed blades ordered from Busse. I believe its time to thin the herd alot. I haven't really bought a new folder in about 4 months even though I see lots of new ones that get me interested. My buying habits have escalated significantly since I joined Blade forums lol, it has been fun.

I haven't counted, and I don't really want to. One thing I'm pretty certain of is it's well under 100. Probably more in the 50-70 range. But there are my regulars that I rotate and use, either all the time or on occasions. There are less than 10 in that group.

My collection has 121 knives, and 78% are fixed blades. I’m not counting four sets of kitchen knives, which I mostly consider belonging to my wife.

Have about 14, but only started "collecting" earlier this year. Nine of those have been acquired in the last ten months or so.

I'm still in the process of creating a catalogue. Between fixed & folders, gotta be somewhere between 300-400. After I finish the tabulating, I'll take a good hard look at it and start the thinning, either by selling or gifts.

To answer the OP's question : I have no idea. There are passionate members who own a dozen knives or less, collectors who display select types in showcases, people who try every new model launched, others who focus on one special type or model and others who just accumulate knives they like. It's a diverse and complicated world. As my drawers are nearing choke full and I consider moving the less liked knives to boxes, I may be an accumulator. Probably in the 100-200 range. I don't care to count.

I have about 60+ hammers, so I just extrapolated to 100-200. Actually might be >200, not including kitchen knives. Still have a big box or two of these (aborted import business...). Hard to resist good hand-forged blades at $3 - $4 each. I've been accumulating knives for 50 years.

I was glad to see at least a couple people don’t count—I don’t know how to even begin to answer the question. Probably anywhere between 300 to 1000.

Had to change my vote, on reflection. 30+ is accurate. I generally buy a duplicate of a knife I really like, since production is measured in years rather than decades, anymore, so that accounts for most of them. I swear.
