How many of you actually use the clip?

Hey guys just a little survey for self interest, how many of you actually use the clip? (Pls Dont flame), im actually starting to dislike the clip as i feel that a grip without the clip is more satisfying, and im actually gonna start letting my meadowlark ride in the pocket.

I bought my first Spyderco in 1991 BECAUSE of the clip. I cannot count the pocket knives I have lost through the years sans clips.

I always use the clips for a sense of security. Besides, the clip often gives an extra bit of 'grab' when closing a number of Spydies.

I take the clip off any knife I intend to carry more than once or twice. Been carrying a pocket knife in my back pocket for over fifty years, have never had one fall out yet. Short of doing cartwheels, can't imagine a way it could happen. On the other hand, I've read plenty of tales of folks losing one who concluded "the clip must have snagged on something".

No flames here. I use clips on all but very small blades, and my smallest Spydie (at this point anyway) is the Delica, the wave feature adds some size to it. My Cold Steel medium voyager rides loose in the pocket, I should probably just take the clip off as I agree the grip is better without it, somehow never got around to doing.

I do see the advantages and disadvatages of the clip..one disadvantage in my opinion is you wont always get a firm grip, and espcially like my g10 lark, i dont wanna waste all that g10 (my personal experiances). But one good advantage of the clip is that you can always draw the knife quickly, and you will always have it in the same grip so you dont need to go searching for the hole/comet.

Of course I use the clip, each and every time. The convenience of not having a dead weight at the bottom of my pocket is too much to mention.

Cheers,
Rob

Yep, I use them. My Dragonfly stays in a little pocket on a belt sheath that I have which holds my mag-light and Swiss Tool and a few other odds and ends, and my D4W rides clipped inside my right front pocket. I do also often carry SAKs and/or Opinels in my pockets, but when I need a knife quickly I always go for one of the Spydies.

For me it is not so much about losing a knife as it is about being able to get to it fast. When I had knives with no clip, I was always fishing for them in my pockets and then it took two hands to open and close them.

When I got my first modern knife, I never looked back. I won't buy a knife unless it has a clip and can be easily opened and closed with one hand. My first modern knife was a S&W SWAT and while it is not what I would consider a quality knife, it introduced me to modern features like the clip and the thumb stud and liner lock. Before that I had a Buck 112 and thought I was happy.

I will never go back to a Buck 112 type of knife. For me, a clip is a must.

I carry clipped. It frees up pocket space, and drawing a clipped knife has become second nature to me. By the way, TexasNative: Great avatar.

With a very small knife I do not always use a clip. But, for bigger knives I can't imagine not using the clip. I can carry a 3.5 inch and up blade easily with no fuss, and really can't even tell I have it at times. Which is good IMO! It really surprised me how big a knife I could easily carry when I first started, I had just always carried small blades before, no longer!

My little Kershaw Chive just rides at the bottom though, no point in using the clip for that little knife.

I use the clips all the time. This is the biggest contribution Spyderco has made to the knife industry in my opinion. I happen to like Spydercos and own several. I think they make teriffic knives and are always trying new designs and new steels. But the presence of pocket clips on knives from most every makers these days is all a credit to a terrific disign first used on pocket knives by Spyderco!

Thanks for the pocket clip Sal! And thanks for continuing to create terrific new knives and never growing stagnant with design styles and steel types. I bought myself a D2 Miltary for Christmas and I love this knife!

I love the clip. My first Spyderco knife was what got me hooked on pocket clip pocket knives. Prior to that, I'd always let them ride loose in my pocket. Unfortunately, the pocket that holds my knife is also the one that holds my keys, which means I was always fishing around in my pocket trying to get around my keys to get my knife.

With the pocket clip, my knife is always exactly where I want it and where I need it, immediately accessible. I'm not sure I'd select a knife as primary EDC without a clip.
