How many of you actually use the clip?

I always use the clip. I have other SAK's and Slippies that I carry in my pocket and my biggest EDC blade is usually a Spydie clipped IWB.

I've got big hands, so for me, the clip actually *improves* the grip on the knife. Especially on smaller knives (and even on my Manixes), it's much easier for me to open, close, and generally handle my knives with the clip there as an added point of purchase.

Do you know the reflex movement when reaching for your wallet/keys/cell phone?

I would go mad instantly when grabbing the corner of my RFP anytime and not feeling a Spydie ready to draw! It has become second nature. Period.

i use the pocket clip. for me the main reason is security it stays in my pocket really well. When i was at scouts one night we were playing the pole game and my 80 euro boker slip joint fell out of my pocket went sliding across the floor and i swear someone picked it up because i looked all over that room for 1/2 an hour and it was now where to be found luckily my delica stayed cipped. dang that boker had lots of sentimental value i dont even know why i brought it. Long story short if you want your knives to be most secure and easy to access go with the clip.

I sometimes use the clip, but I feel that it improves the grip. I've tried taking off the clip, and I find it hard to open the knife (not counting Spyder-Drop Opening). I like the four-way clips, but I admit that I don't actually change the position. It's just nice having the option, should I want to.

I use the clip if the knife is not for heavy or long use. Most clips aggravate my hand.

One exception is the Boker CLB Sub Com. That clip stays out of my way.

If I need to use a knife with a clip for heavy or long use I fold a handkerchief into a rectangle then clip the knife to the handkerchief, then I clip the knife to the center of the handkerchief, then I fold the handkerchief again over, and wrap the extra cloth around the handle.

That may sound like a lot of trouble, but it is not. I always have a prefolded handkerchief in my back pocket, or clipped to my knife at the bottom of my pocket.

It gives me a better, more secure grip, but that probably would not be the case for everyone.

There are knives that look and function better without the clip (one good example being the Benchmade Presidio, with its 'fat' aggresively textured aluminum handle).
Spyderco seems to put a lot of thought in the design & positioning of the clip and i have yet to experience one of their knives where the clip gets in the way or loosens your grip, so you can go whichever style suits you best.
And finally there are folders i couldn't even imagine using without the clip, like the SOG Twitch, because leaning your finger against the clip is the only way you will have enough purchase to start the AO system.

I use the clip 99% of the time.

However at work I tried the Deacon way(only right then;)) and it works quite well if you don't carry more in that pocket.

Used to take the clip off my new knives before I even held them because I thought the handles felt a lot better that way. Over the past couple of months I've come to see a lot of the advantadges of clipped carry and use it everyday now. It's nice having the option to carry a knife IWB or just clipped to the front pocket instead of in the bottom of the pocket. Much more comfortable to carry, but the trade-off is comfort during use. I carry other knives like slipjoints and SAKs loose in the pockets and knives that size aren't bad carried that way.

I use them sometimes. Lost my Native twice. Found it the first time, looked and looked the second. Cost me $39.99 to buy a second Native. It's worth it, but be careful when doing heavy physical work.

Clip always. I just don't buy knives where the clip impedes my grip.
Like someone else said, with bigger hands the clip can help grip.
And I like how the clip holds the knife such that less lint gets in it.
And it doesn't flop around in the pocket; hate things flopping around.
Plus, the knife being in the same position always makes it nicer when I have to grab the knife with one hand while holding the thing to cut with the other; less pocket searching involved.
The only knives I like WITHOUT clips are fixed blade ones.

In general, I dislike clips. I only use them on thin, lightweight knives when I'm wearing pants that tend to auto-eject knives or when I'm wearing running shorts. Otherwise, I prefer deep-pocket carry for smallish folders or sheath carry for larger knives. I don't have any problems getting the right grip on any of my folders when they are in-pocket, but then I've been playing with them pretty much non-stop for forty years or so and there are only two orientations that they tend to take unless the pants have big loose pockets. I don't wear pants like that, I'm old enough that they would look funny. I have had problems with the clips catching on stuff and lifting the knife out of my pocket, bending the clip, or scratching the snot out of whatever it caught on. I also dislike how a knife clipped in the front pocket gets in the way of reaching other things in the pocket when I'm wearing certain pants. All of these preferences are pretty much a function of my wardrobe and my activities, so your mileage will almost certainly vary.

The only knife that I carry that DOESN"T have a clip is my one traditional slippie. All of my other pocket knives have a clip and they are utilized. I love the clip. I hate knife sized objects wisting at the depths of my pocket and it make them much quicker to get to.

I actually use the clip as a tool. It fits perfectly into the little door on my cell phone I have to pop open in order to plug the charger in.

Same here keep my ATR in RFP muscle memory to get at it quick. And clips are what made me buy my first Spydie a Snap-It in the 90's as I could hook it right onto my fire gear.

I carry in the waist band of my pants, usually a calypso/caly Jr/UKPK clipped on the back of the right hip, and a cricket clipped on the front of the right hip.

I don't like to carry stuff in my pockets, I usually have my cell phone on the right front pocket and my Nokia N810 (internet tablet) in the left front pocket, that's all.

I have a quite sensitive skin, and the IWB carry is the only one that is really comfortable to me. The Mercharness is my second most comfortable carry, but I rarely use it, because I think it would scare the people around me when I use it, and I still have to need a fixed blade for my everyday tasks.

Never removed a clip from a knife. Its comforting to know that my knife is right where I put it, always ready for use.
