How many of you actually use the clip?

Just going by what I've seen here. For every post about someone losing a knife they were carrying deep pocket, there are a dozen posts from those whose knives became unclipped. It's hard to argue with the data.

It's difficult to know what the results of a poll of all knife carriers would be, regarding clip use. On one hand I think most nkp just buy what's available and use it as is, and that is a clipped knife. On the other hand, I think many people still carry traditionals, and by their nature it is difficult to tell if someone is carrying one.

My personal preference: I like small knives clipless and large knives clipped.

You could be seeing what you want to, because you don't like clips...confirmation bias!

I used to hate pocket clips, it hasn't even been that long since I did. But I noticed they make larger knives more comfortable to carry and now prefer them on anything that's much over 3 ounce/2".

I even have a pocket clip on my fixed blade's sheath these days

Oh my, you must have some raging hormones with all that clippage.

Guess he and I both could, or you could be using that possibility to reenforce your own skewed view. 60+ years carrying a knife loose in my back pocket without losing a single one. I'll admit though that I don't lose much of anything. Have had friends and relatives who could never seem to hang on to a pen, pair of gloves, knife, watch, or hat for more than a couple months, tops, and one who lost jackets and shoes more than a few times.

That helps. :)
The only things I have lost out of pockets was clipless knives (usually when doing something active), and a set of keys from a jacket pocket while running during winter in deep snow.

Since I no longer run (stupid knees and back) or carry clipless knives (except for a Swisschamp in a velcroed pocket inside a zipped pouch of the backpack), I don't lose things.

Even capsized a canoe twice in rather quick succession in Lake Erie while wearing a clipped knife and didn't lose it...I did learn that I suck at canoeing though. :D

(Hey, I like clips...I even have a clip to attach my cane to while paying for stuff at the store, or using my knives in the woods. Clips, clips, clips clips clips, go clips!)

I think that all depends of the knife design. Some knives are comfortable without the clip, some knives are comfortable with the clip.
I don't have any Spyderco yet but some of my experiences are below.

Laguiole Gentleman Knife - a very comfortable handle without the clip but this knife is uncomfortable in the pants pocket.
LionSteel TiSpine - a very comfortable handle with clip which is a part of the FrameLock construction and it has very good comfort in the pocket.
Nilte Quiete - a very comfortable thin handle without the clip and this knife is also comfortable in the pocket.
Boker Rhino Stag - a leather sheath has the clip and it is very comfortable in the pocket.

The only time I ever lost a clipped knife it was my fault, certainly not the clips (it was clipped to the outside of a sheath). I will never understand the logic of blaming an inanimate object for scratching your car or getting itself lost. Some folks need to be more aware of their surroundings and what their body is doing. Don't blame the clip!:D

I am like you, I never lose anything. I do, however, use a pocket clip, always. :)
Funny though, I buy my father things he loses often on holidays/birthdays. Lately I can't seem to find a damn tape measure at the house, so he's getting a handful of cheap ones for Xmas. He got pile of cheap pliers for his birthday in Aug - they had previously gone missing. Xmas last year was two boxes of box cutters and a dozen screwdrivers, lol.

But yes, I love a good pocket clip.

I hate carrying anything large in my pockets. Without the clip on knives I'd still be carrying a small Case traditional.

I used to carry clipped all the time, but since I began wearing cargo pants about 5 or more years ago, I don't anymore. The cargo pants material is much more delicate than jeans. Since the clip knives I carry are my Pacific Salt and Tasman Salt, they're so light that I can carry either of them easily and comfortably down in-pocket. I keep the clips on, because they provide leverage when opening/closing, and sometimes I clip one to my seatbelt when driving.

Occasionally, if I opt to carry a knife clipped, it will be when I carry a SS-handled model, that has a smooth handle yet strong retention, like my Police of whatever. Since I don't carry it often, it won't hurt my RF pocket material. A SS model is too heavy to drop down into the pocket.

It depends on the knife.
Some I carry with custom deep carry clips (PM2, Manix), some I carry back pocket or front right with no clip (Kopa, Caly 3, D-Fly).
I almost never carry with manufacturer-provided clips, as the knife rides too high for my taste. (Not just Spydies, most brands - unless knife comes with deep carry clip as standard - some makers are starting to figure this one out).

I use the clip on all my Spyderco blades and any other folder that I might be carrying at a given moment! I find having long, flat objects tumbling around in my pocket to be very uncomfortable. In day to day life I also find myself in a position where things free in my pocket fall out. Whether I'm working underneath my Mustang or simply looking under the bed or a piece of furniture, everything falls out except the clipped knife. The other important reason I don't allow a knife free will in my pocket is because of the other things in that pocket. I am constantly jamming change or other odds and ends into my pockets and don't fancy an unexpected stonewash finish!
