How many of you actually use the clip?

I don't like the feel of the clip so I removed it on both my Spydercos, a Delica and a Pacific Salt. The Salt is generally used around water so I carry it in a slim nylon sheath which is pretty secure. The Delica also rides in a nylon sheath, occasionally on my belt but mostly in my pocket.

I EDC with a clip, but inside the waistband, especially when I'm wearing a belt.

When I carried a knife clipped to my pocket, I was always catching the clip on things. I once had my original Benchmade AFCK pop out and flip partially open horsing around with some kids. Not a good situation. I moved to inside the waistband carry that day and rarely carry anywhere else now.

I hate clips! :thumbdn:

The only thing that I find myself using them for is to have a handle on the side of smaller knives while opening them.

I'm often in an environment where it wouldn't be appropriate to display that I'm carrying a knife, so my Delica has been riding in my pocket. I just got it on Friday, and I went with it for a couple days with the clip, but took it off yesterday to see how that feels. I like clipless better once it's opened, but I think the clip gives you a better/safer hand-hold while opening and closing. That might not be as much of an issue on a knife with a thicker handle, but the Delica is quite thin, so I'm adjusting to how best to hold it, especially when closing one-handed.

I used my clip for the 2 weeks I've owned my Delica 4, that is until last friday when I brushed past a shop table and and snapped it off :grumpy: I ordered a replacement from Spyderco. I was not a happy camper until I found out you can order replacement parts :) They were very helpful.

I'm a clipper too. It's partr fo what got me going on Spydies in the first place and I just don't feel right carrying without it.

Chris:):):)

Knife in my right front pocket is always clipped, I feel weird if it's not. The smaller knives that I usually have in my left rear pocket are just loose, they feel more secure that way.

The knife rides nicely in the pocket when clipped. No unnecessary weight in the pocket, you don't even notice it there.

Clipped on is much more comfortable than the weight of the knife in the bottom of the pocket. In certain social situations I sometimes go unclipped and let it sit unseen in the pit of the pocket.

I like to clip my knife on the inside of my pocket, it not only keeps it from bouncing around, but it also keeps it away from the lint and fuzz in the bottom of my pocket.

Though this thread died a few years back, I decided to run a search on the topic instead of starting a new one. I left the clip on my previous EDC (Buck Taclite mini) over the years, but rarely used the clip, opting instead to frequently pocket carry, being a small knife and all it fit easily in the pocket and didn't ever really get in the way. Well today I clipped my Spyderco Delica to my right pocket, and being relatively new to clip carry, managed to slide the clip edge along the side of my truck squeezing between my wifes car and mine. Needless to say I'm not stoked--fortunately it's my work truck so I'm not gonna cry about it. When I checked the knife I noticed it was looser than before. So I just decided to pull the clip off and stick it back in the box with the screws. I'm gonna try a back pocket carry for a while and see if it feels better. The Delica is not a tiny knife, but it is pretty flat and definitely not bulky. I also like the flush look of the knife without the clip.

Anybody else have any similar experiences with pocket clipping--and anybody EDC'd a Delica 4 without a clip?

I have two delicas, one with a clip and one without. I carry the clipless one while at work as to not scratch customers cars. I carry the clipped one everywhere else. Delica is my favorite user.

A few months after my original post in this thread I got a job with a no tolerance "no weapons" rule. They didn't use a detector or frisk employees on the way in so I dug out an early Delica I bought cheap some time ago that had the original plastic clip ground off. I carried deep pocket and the lack of a clip meant I would not slip up and clip it in plain sight by mistake.

Did you ever get caught? That's ballsy but awesome. I didn't know they came with a plastic clip back then.

When you go clipless do you back pocket carry or front pocket carry? I'm wondering how durable the knife is if it's sat on like a wallet day in and day out.

I pretty much exclusively back pocket carry. I have sat on it on concrete dozens of times with no issue.

Hey good info Kris I appreciate it. I think with clip it might be a little less comfortable in the back pocket when sitting. Without clip it's so thin I can't imagine it being an issue. Furthermore, I've never found a use for my back left pocket....until now.
