how many of you carry and use a custom knife?

I will typically carry at least one hand made, usually mine, but at times I carry one that was made my Mace, or my dress knife made by Lamont Coombs. These are all users.

I also carry a Victorinox and a Leatherman. That being said I carry 3 knives almost all the time :D.

I don't make folders so I carry either a Case folder or one I bought at Sears years ago. If I carry a fixed blade, it's one of mine.

I put a nice, thin, hard D2 blade in a cheap ugly production folder. Lazy and cheap I guess....

I might get flogged for this ,I carry a rough rider 2 blade trapper. it cost me 8 bucks new at some kind of road side sale. I bought it to use as a pattern but didn't have the heart to take it apart.

Currently it's a 3-blade whittler by Bob Enders (RIP) and a Kerry Hampton Backpocket.

str mod flipper and one of my neck knives oo and a spyderco cricket

most the time i have 3 blades on me and some times i swap out the one i make with something different i made
there are a few makers knives i would like to get my hands one and if i did you can bet i would use them

some may say i just asked a stupid question. but lets face it a custom blade is a beautifull thing and i was just wondering how many actually carry and use customs and do not just use them for a show piece.. come on now you all know you are worried about putting a scratch on those beautifull customs myself included. but i would think a maker would be proud to see one of his creations being used in the field. anyway i just recieved my custom steve voorhis chute knife and let me tell you this is one pretty work of art. and i am not going to be able to help myself from strapping it on my hip. i do plan to carry and use it . but at the same time take care of it. steve really does superior work his work is just outstanding. steve please do not hate me buddy for putting one of your blades to work:) but i promise to take good care of it....

I carry a folder that I designed and had Lamont Coombs make for me.. it's sweet ;)
I've been carrying it for maybe over 5-6 years now everyday
I can't keep one of my own and I won't sell that one because he made it for me.. unless I get enough for it :D

I had him make two blades for it , one upswept and one drop point both with 1/4" ball bearing pivots, Damascus bolsters, 154 CM blade steel , TI liners with gold plated screws.. did I mention :foot:;) ivory , the real stuff about 30 years old now.
this was when it was new the :foot: Ivory is nice and yellow now

I carry two knives that I built, one is a titanium key chain knife with a 1/32" packing strap blade. This was the most delicate milling project I have done so far cutting the slit for the blade insert in Ti.

In my pocket I carry a moose antler friction folder.

A Benchmade Skirmish and a Leatherman Charge. I keep giving away all the knives I make and all of the ones I've made are being used.

....... come on now you all know you are worried about putting a scratch on those beautifull customs ....

I agree with what you say. For most of my years of buying customs I didn't want to scratch them.

Then I decided the time had come in my life that I didn't really care any more whether most had a few scratches or not. I never planned on selling my collection anyway, and I don't give a damn what it's worth once I'm gone.

On the other hand, if my wife found one in my pocket that came out of her display case I'd have hell to pay. :D

I gotta agree with ya Dan, it sure is SWEEEEET!

I carry the small folder my wife gave me when we were first dating. It's a real BEAUTY! :foot:Straight from China to one of the shops in the mall to another shop in the mall for engraving.:D I told her I wanted to make a folder and she said that wouldn't excuse me from carrying the one she bought for me. I can see her point.
