Read this thread:

Stop using Friends and Family. Just stop

If you insist on doing so, why aren't you requiring that they show you positive ID, like their driver's license with today's date, then a face pic of them holding said license & the knife, before sending money?

I'm sick of seeing you guys get ripped off.

This nonsense is going to get worse with many members now requiring F&F due to tax issues.

I am not trying to say honest members will rip you off, but scammers will take advantage of those stupid enough to to use this method of payment. GBU is a graveyard of threads detailing countless deals that went south due to FF payments.

It appears that even dealing with trusted members isn’t necessarily safe due to the possibility of a hijacked account.

Plenty of (not hacked) trusted members have caused problems as well.

Fair enough. I’ve started accepting G&S again just because I can’t bring myself to pay F&F. I think I’ll start asking them to ship the knife first and when it arrives I’ll pay F&F. That sounds fair doesn’t it? 😂
Hey interested in that Microtech Scarab you have listed, can you ship it to my P.O. Box in Mexico and when I get it and have a chance to look it over and play with it I’ll send you what I think it’s worth. Work for you?🤥🤗

In all honesty - that’s not a bad idea. I would mail to someone I’ve dealt with prior to receiving payment. I would make sure I had all of their info though.

Someone with no feedback, or a new account - money order of F/F only though

There is always a risk.

Goods / services is the best way to safeguard your transaction. The new tax laws are very annoying.

I’m actually about to go send the IRS a stack of cash today.

It's not unusual. For example, Roland and I have sent money or knives in advance of the other doing one or the other. I've never been burned by trusting those who have earned trust.

You can always ask the seller to take G&S if you pay the fees, and if they won't I typically move on, I offer both if I sell something, but I'm the seller and I take responsibility to delivery. Alot of sellers won't I've found out.

I don’t think it’s the fees that have many sellers avoiding G/S. For me it’s the surprise $600 I owe for selling with goods / services. Personally, I don’t care about the fees - happy to pay them, and fully insured shipping. Most of the knives I’ve sold came from the exchange, I don’t have a way to prove I sold at a loss. Including taxes and fees makes selling / buying on the exchange less than worth it.

If I buy a knife for $300, sell it a month later for $275 with goods / services..

Tax is about $28
Shipping fully insured is another $25
PayPal fees $ 11

If I add those numbers to the price of the knife I’m re selling - it’s not worth it to the potential buyer. That’s a decent loss. I guess you have to pay to play. Fine by me. I’ll just use money orders from here out. Unless we’ve had dealings in the past.

I hope a new solution pops up somehow.

I’m attempting to be more responsible with my records, limiting purchases on knives I’ll probably not keep. I plan to use both goods and friends in the near future. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m NO expert with taxes. Is what it is..
