No.8 stainless, Bubinga wood
No. 6 Stainless also Bubinga, fantastic snack/food knives and the dark hardwood handles are a nice touch too. I've heard they sometimes come in Ebony
Bot an Opinel Filet knife with solid horn handle, blonde colour, same brilliantly simple locking collar, fail safe for its tasks.
I've been carrying my No.8 Carbon every single day lately. It sees a lot of hard use around the barn and it holds up great. They can withstand a lot more than many might guess!
I am ashamed to say I do NOT own an Opinel. I have been obsessing over why this is for the last 6 months or so. Been familiar with them for years, decades even. A past woman friend always had hers with her, and it was always razor sharp. I can find no good reason why I've never bought one.
I seriously think that is about to change..........
Who has the best deals on them? (Forgive / ignore me if asking that is a Forum no-no.)
You better believe it I use it the traditional way, always opening it with "le coup du savoyard," i.e. hold it by the bolster and knock it against a hard surface to get the blade out a bit. It's my go-to knife around the house. Sure, ninja-flicking one of these new-fangled knives is faster and involves fewer hands, but I like the Opinel.
Absolutely. Can't go wrong with 'em. Perfect for youth too. Have purchased many in different sizes, haved carved/customized the handles, have gifted most away. Every time I see one I think "I need another one"...LOL
I own about 8 or 12 of them. Most of them fly around anywhere. Some are in the office at work, one is in my car, another one on the table of my living room, left beside me right now.
I don´t know how many I own. Most of them are #6 or #8, it has the best fit in my hand. I don´t EDC them, because the handle seems to too thick.
