How many own an Opinel?

Used to have a few but now I just have a customized 8, with rounded handle and a dropped point on the blade. Everybody needs one.

Opinels are legendary alright, but I wouldn't call them tough or secure - the lock rings can pop off under pressure and you can't even get the handle wet, but they cut like nothing else. They get so sharp I'm a little bit frightened of them :D

I've got a stainless 06 and a carbon 09 and EDC both quite often. Opinel IMO represents an excellent value in the knife world. The sharpest blade I believe I've ever felt on any knife was my dad's well worn rusty number 09 it was a scary sort of sharp and on top of that he obtained that kind of sharpness freehand on some 5.00 dollar hardware store whetstone:eek:.

I love'em and I have several ,a #10 that is my daily carry,a #6 for my Sunday pants, a curved blade pruner for gardening and a #12 that I often carry in a homade leather sheath.
Easy to sharpen, good edge holding qualities AND the price is right.

I wouldn't call them tough or secure
You're right if you ask them to do the job a Ka-Bar BK2 is supposed to do. But an Opinel is a simple knife for everyday life and average campers' activities, it's tough and secure... as long as you don't ask it to to destroy a Hummer.

Opinels are peasant knives. I use mine daily on the farm and it handles those tasks very well.

I don't know Moose. It does look pretty peculiar.

Man, thats must be the #7 Shocker model. Sweet. :D

Moose

I have a #8 in carbon and a set of their paring knives in carbon. The paring knives are really thin. They slice amazingly well.

Yep, I've got one. A number 8, carbon. There have been others over the years, but they've been given to knifeless friends and acquaintances.
I don't waste my time with the stainless.

I am ashamed to say I do NOT own an Opinel. I have been obsessing over why this is for the last 6 months or so. Been familiar with them for years, decades even. A past woman friend always had hers with her, and it was always razor sharp. I can find no good reason why I've never bought one.

I seriously think that is about to change..........

Who has the best deals on them? (Forgive / ignore me if asking that is a Forum no-no.)

I'm assuming that I committed a faux pas on this since nobody replied. Sincere apologies if I was out of line on asking where to buy.

After reading all this, I finally ordered 2. Funny it took me all these years.

I dig them. After a few tweaks they're a good user. The only real con I noticed is the blade hits the wood when it's closed and it makes a dull spot by the tip.

I just received my No. 8 Garden Knife and I absolutely love it!

It wasn't sharp at all though, just one big fat burr along most of the blade.
The lock didn't function very well either, but I oiled that up and now the blade gets locked in quite nicely.
There's still some blade-play though, but I'm sure it will get better over time, as it wears in.
I can see why people like these blades, but I had to start tweaking mine straight out of the box, which was sort of a minus.

Now I wanna get a regular No. 8 Carbon and a No. 2 as well!
