It depends on what I start out with. It's usually one knife for the entire day, unless I start out with a small, then I usually upsize when I get home if I plan on being outside.

Pre-pandemic, at work I carried my Vic Cadet and a type of a sodbuster jr. every day. But since Covid I have mostly been working from home and I sometimes change knives twice or thrice each day. (And my Cadet has already been appropriated by my 11 year old son.)

Most often carry one EDC In the Medium Stockman size. However if I choose (seldom) a penknife I will put a big Buck folder in my pocket using the side clip for going out on the boat or in the woods, or something like that. When I come home the big knife goes back on the desk. Guess my answer is seldom will I add another to my EDC. OH

recent retiree here, so I get to be home more. Before I would have the same (ok-or 2 or 3) in pocket all day. Now generally once a day if "honey do" activities change or I go out somewhere I want to be less conspicuois or better dressed.

I carry the same two all day, the ones I post each day. When I’m relaxing at night, usually on the deck with a cigar and a bourbon or a beer, I’ll add a couple to play with. That’s what I’m doing right now actually! 😊👍

Same all day, unless I drastically change activities (like going to the beach for example) then I grab something more rust resistant over a GEC.

The question is, How often do I change knives during a month, or during the year. Over the last three years, I carried the same three knives, with only an occasional chang of pace for a day or two. For the last month or two, I have been carrying just two, switching one out about evert week, but always carrying the Alox Electrician. For a couple of weeks it was a lambsfoot, then a Queen Hawbaker. Right now, it is a yellow CV Sodbuster Jr.

In a while, I expect I will go back to my old standbys, Opinel 6 and Okapi Biltong.

Every day I carry my Usual Lambsfoot. This satisfies my "one knife forever" urges.
I carry a second knife that will satisfy my need for change. This system keeps me happy.

In the early morning, while drinking coffee, grading papers, and reading the forum, I have my Usual Lamb and a second knife sitting at the table with me. These are the two knives I take pictures of for the Totin' thread. They spend a good three hours with me and I fiddle with them constantly.

Then it's time to go to work. I usually swap out the second knife for a new one before I leave. After all, I just spent three hours fiddling with it and I'm bored with it.
So, I have my Lamb and the third knife for the day in my pockets at work. The third knife sits on my desk and I admire it for the three hours I'm in the classroom.

Then I head home to start the virtual part of my day, another five hours worth of staring at a computer and talking to students.
Of course, I just spent three hours staring at the same knife, so when i get home I swap it for a fourth knife.
That fourth knife sits on my desk at home and I fiddle with it, cut my lunch, open Amazon packages, and such.

Then it's dinner time, and that usually means a steak or piece of meat.
I swap out the fourth knife for a Sodbuster of some sort. Sodbusters are my favorite steak and food knife... that would be the fifth knife for the day.

After dinner, I usually relax in front of the TV with my Wife, watching football or one of our favorite shows.
The Sodbuster gets put back and I grab knife number six for the day. Depending on the night, I may even go swap them again just to have something different.

At bed time the knives are returned to their resting spot and the Lamb stays in my pocket... the Lamb never leaves my pocket.

Next day I start all over at 4:30 picking the knife to pair with my Lamb again... I have issues.

On weekends, I usually don't swap knives at all because I'm out working around the house or traveling.
Great post! :D

Interesting topic, John. I don’t usually swap out knives throughout the day, and I generally keep the same one in my pocket for at least a couple days.

I will sometimes choose a different knife in the middle of the day, but I don’t really consider that the same thing we’re talking about here, because I’m swapping out a knife that I’ve been carrying for a few days for another that I’ll carry for the next few days.

Also, if I’m around the the house and need a knife, there are usually a few lying around that I might grab instead of the one that’s in my pocket, so I will use several different knives some days. (For me, a Lambsfoot is a common around-the-house knife. They always seems to be hanging about.)

I carry the same knives all day, and sometimes all week. There's always an Alox cadet or electrician in one pocket, then whatever else I choose to carry.

I guess my own reply was a little misleading, I really do change knives five or six times a day...
But to be "carried" i actually have to leave the house. So maybe I'm more in the two to three range... but six sounds better. ;)

For me it's same knives pretty much all day. One slipjoint, one small fixed blade and one not to be discussed.
Occasionally I'll swap if I'm headed out to do something that necessitates a change.
Cool thread John!

I rarely carry two knives on my person, unless one is a belt knife and I’m in the outdoors. I don’t count the little Victorinox Classic on my keys. (Sorry J jackknife ). But I do have a Recruit in my work pack pack that I consider a loaner to be abused and maybe never seen again depending on who borrows it. But as far as pockets go, one at a time. But then for swapping out, I’ll carry the same knife most of the day. If it’s a work day I’ll swap out when I get home. On the weekends around the house I’ll probably change once a day about 30% of the time. My problem is I have about 6 knives I carry regularly while the others just sit there:confused: I suppose there are worse problems to have???

I carry the same knives pretty much all day. Usually for several days. I always have a Vic Cadet on my keychain, and at work I carry a multitool. My traditional rides along until I decide to swap it out for something different. My most frequently a Case med stockman, GEC 35, or 15.
