Now if he had been making for over 20 yrs for a total of 12000 then thats 600 knives/yr @ $400/knife = $240,000.00/yr. Not a bad wage for a knifemaker.. Not a bad wage for a CEO

Heck 600 knives/yr thats only averaging 2/day. And you get 65 days off for shows and vacation.

Dan Did he say he Sharpened them or made them it could be possible to just sharpen that many as long as you didn't make them.

It is possible with this guy. He has made an insane number of kitchen knives and the type of knives don't have a time consuming finish or construction.

But might be a slight exaggeration.

Don I Like to get at least 4-5 hours of sleep at night, it cound be he didn't sleep much :D
 
You also have to consider whether the master smith has helpers or is working alone! Don't some shops have underlings who are learning the trade, that do the more mundane tasks and the master smith takes care of the finer techniques?

Oh, I like to sleep also.:thumbup: For years, I thought being full time meant working 7 days a week though.

600 knives a year is doable but man would that would get old. I had a couple 500+ years and I never was real organized :o

I put in 63 hours weeks for 9 years (not at knife making thank goodness) working in automotive and then when I could the rest of the time in my own small engine bis many years ago . then once I went full time in my own business for the next 20 years I would even dream business.. that was a 24/7 for a lonnnnng time.. if I did that with Knives I'd have stopped that too..

Michael just don't let it happen again OK ? there's only room for one for us to screw up here at a time and I'm doing a good job of it myself right now :D ;) :D

Matt I'd really not want to call him a liar, but if I claimed, that I'd have to think real hard about putting it in writing.. just to keep the skeptics away.
he may have the corner on the ego trip though. this reminds me of a thread some time ago that I won't mention.. something about spirit steel that was made from 1095.. :foot: :D

i feel like i am working really slow. It takes me several hours just to file the bevels on one side!
 
what about that guy back a while ago that would guarantee and personally repair a knife if something happened to it for like 100 years after buying it from him..
what are these guys thinking???
