How Much Cash in INFI do you have ?

Threads like this are what cause threads like this:

Thanks for your opinion, but not in the spirit of the original OP thread as I see it. You have made your point of view more than clear in the cited posts below. Contnuing to do so is trolling. My mother always told me if you don't have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut. No one in this thread was dumping on you or your opinion.

Kuribo, you've made some interesting posts in the thread you mention (a small sampling above). Coming into the Busse forum and linking to a thread where you have been repeatedly bashing Busse knives and the Busse community could be perceived as trolling. Please feel free to hang around, explore and learn about Busse. Hopefully you will discover that there is something to the "Busse thing" after all, and that the community you have dismissed as an "off-putting cult" is very helpful and friendly.

It is trolling in my book given the cited posts. Moonwilson, thanks for the civil post (not saying your post wasn't civil in text kuribo). Some get hot under the collar and would have snapped back more harshly. For some, the hunt for that particular knife is frustrating, especially when the trough won't let a guy get a chance. That is what happens when supply hasn't met demand. Kuribo, if you have been trying to snag a certain blade and the hunt has you frustrated, please post a "wanted to buy" thread (if you haven't done so already) in the exchange. You might find someone will have what you are looking for and there is a good chance they will give you a good deal. I know I have done so for folks in the past, helping a guy get his desired blade is almost as fun as finding one you have been hunting yourself.

There is a Kool Aid Slurpy Cult and I didn't get an invite?:(:(

I am sure there are many fine people here, but there are those that can't help flaunt their good fortune every chance they get and that definitely rubs a lot of people the wrong way.....I posted the link because many Busse supporters seem to be at a loss to understand why people are put off by them. This thread is a good example of what turns people off- "I've got more money in my wine cellar than in Busse knives, but not as much as in my classic car collection..." "here, look at my 300 Busse knives..." Gag, gag, gag......

Kuribo,

As mentioned before, if you want advice, help or camaraderie, this is a great place with great people.

If all you have to talk about here is what you have stated so far in this thread, then just go away. Go to the Whine and Cheese section and spew forth. Everything you have stated starts off negatively, or bashing in some way. This isn't the place... Please...

To continue on the thread...

What I have into my Busse bunch is deeper than $$$. It's good experiences here, and with the knives themselves. Can't put a dollar figure on all of that...

Sounds like sour grapes to me. One might notice that few people are giving specific dollar amounts here.

It's human nature to share one's passions with other people who share the same passion. It's why we have subforums here devoted to entire knife groups. I've seen plenty of posts and pics chock full of Buck knives or Camillus knives or... name your brand. Yet because Busse knives tend to cost more, some people immediately are put off by such a display when it comes to Busses. To me, that's their problem. I personally like to see pictures of knives--the more, the better--in all manner of makes and models.

In the thread that kuribo points to (a thread now closed because of all the bickering), I posted quite a few pics. Not to show off, but because so many ill-formed, inaccurate statements were made about Busse knives. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say.

I think that you misrepresent many who share their photos though. Sure maybe there are a few who show pic after pic and you may infer that they are flaunting their good fortune, but many are just sharing pictures of what they love for others who share their interest in the knives. It is no different to me than folks on the various gun forums showing pics of their favorite firearms or their collections. You could substitute a knife, for a gun for a car, for a motorcycle for anything I would probably admit to being a luxury item after you get more than one or two. I truly believe there are far more folks who are just sharing pictures of their stuff out a spirit of mutual admiration rather than showing off how wealthy they are. I can remember a soul who has come on here and said "look at all my cool knives I can buy because I am so freaking rich that it sucks and anyone who can't buy as many as me is beneath me". If anyone can point to a specific poster here who has done so, I'll be very surprised. That isn't the spirit of this forum and it never has been. I have seen more random acts of kindness happen in and because of this forum than I ever had in my entire life before coming here. Kuribo, I think maybe you are looking at it the wrong way. Don't judge the many with blanket statements, when you may see a handful as distasteful. We are not a kool aid cult or anything so ridiculous as that, saying we are is just as silly as it sounds. We are enthusiastic about the knives, the company and the guy behind it all to the point that we may go overboard at times, but that is as far as I would go.

+10 ON THAT !!!!!!!!!

That would be premised on being able to 'buy' your way in.

This is work, fun work, a hobby, but no less work.

Hang around long enough and you discover that those 300 Busse knives were often acquired 1 at a time, over long periods of time. Through horse trading, begging, treachery, selling one to buy another. Playing the ganza game, ordering from BC or the BCS, to get them before the secondary market inflates the price.

My $0.02

and I'm resiting the Kool-aid jokes

My thoughts exactly. When I'm posting or even mentioning anything in my collection, be that books or knives or whatever, it's not to brag about my riches (which aren't anything to brag about - I'd bet there aren't many forum members who drive cars cheaper than mine, for example), it's to enjoy things I like and share them with kindred spirits.

I never did understand why some people react so negatively to any pleasure or joy that other people might display, especially if it happens to be pleasure of possessing something material, no matter how insignificant.

Ken44, there is a new rule against playing with trolls, you now owe me and the rest of the mods one piece of INFI and since I saw this first I call dibs on this one:

I battle the "sharpened crowbar" stereotype about Busse knives when I see it, and one of the best ways to do so is to post some pics of the smaller knives and mention their dimensions. I don't know how many folks have suddenly become interested in a Busse when they realized that not all Busses are big, thick choppers.

Sometimes, posting a pic is just a matter of "Look at the cool Busse I scored," but such posts always are here in the Busse forum. More often, however, I post a pic when there is a question or when I want to illustrate a point or when there is a call for pics.

My knives are definitely worth more than my motorcycle :p...that's not saying much...if I sold MOST of them I could buy a Brand new Honda 919 though ;)....THAT'S never gonna happen!

HEY!!! How's everyone doing? Been a minute! Busier than heck! :o

i would suggest never reading a custom watch forum, a custom car forum, custom gun/artillery forum, custom stereo/electronics forum, custom computer forum, or shoe collecting forum in that case.

if being shown material wealth is a problem, then you need to avoid a big ol' section of the web to not be put off. not everyone likes being poor, or putting up the front that they are.

edit: also I love picture posts. the more collection shots I have the better. I really wish I had saved skunks image post of part of his collection with 2 unshowable models, but its been taken down. the more I see, the more I know about the brand, and the better my understanding of the variety and variations present are. i like art. for me to say that someone with a 1,000 peice art collection worth several million dollars should never show their complete collection because thats bragging and it annoys me is rediculous.

Not to mention that just because you have some INFI doesn't mean you ain't poor, by western standards at least. I'm not exactly sitting on a mountain of gold here, for example, and I'm bet I'm not the only piglet who isn't Richie Rich. It's just a question of where one chooses to put his money. I don't waste it on cars or fancy clothing or whatever, I put it in books and blades. :)
