About a 1.75 liter of LTD a week was my norm for years...now about 3 of 'em a month. Hate to quit something that works!

I didn't drink at all for the first 55 years of my life. Then my family doctor suggested I take 4 ounces of red wine every night. Since then, the evidence for positive health benefits of one or two drinks a day has really accumulated.
I now try to get one glass of red wine or one can of beer daily, but it becomes somewhat of a chore, as I don't really crave the stuff.

Tell you what, for $5 a day I'll drink that daily beer for you. ;)

Your doctor probably recommended that to you because red wine contains pycnogenols. You can get pycnogenols in pil forml, or from other sources, if you don't like drinking. (Less expensive, too.) Generally speaking, beer doesn't contain pycnogenols.

I have a glass of one thing or another several times a year. My drinking days ended years ago about age 25.

This thread reminds me of a joke I heard once...

Guy goes to the Doctor and asks the Doc what he must do to live to be 150 years old.

Doc asks the fellow several questions:

-Do you smoke?

-Do you drink?

-Do you chase wild women?

-Do you engage in any risky activities?

To each question, the fellow replies "NO"

Doctor asks one final question:

So being that you do not smoke, drink, chase wild women, or engage in any risky activities...

Why the hell do you want to live so long?

:D Carpe Diem

And with that... I will leave you with a word from Ben Franklin.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

No alcohol in 5 years. Stopped when I was 23 when the doc said the reason why I couldn't eat for three days was because of too much drinking causing a pre ulcerous condition... With the money I've saved I've bought guns, car parts and now knives.

In Australia drinking is part of the culture. Teenagers usually get drunk for the first time around the age ot 14-15, younger in country towns with problems with alcohol abuse.

I come from a long line of alcoholics, my grand father became an alcoholic following WW2, Dad became an alcoholic just to get close to him. I never met my great grand father but I'm nearly positive he loved the drink too.

I keep that in the back of my head a lot of the time and if I see a pattern emerging I put a stop to it.

That said, if there is alcohol in the house it will get drunk one way of another between my partner and I. A couple of months ago we got into the groove of buying bottles of vodka and we'd go through them in about a week maybe less.

I'll also admit to binge drinking once every 3-6 months. Last time my friend and I hailed a taxi in the pouring rain... in our underwear.

Some nights nothing, some nights I will kill a bottle. Depends on the day and what I am doing. Today I found out that in Louisiana you can get a margarita to go from my favorite burrito establishment, so my night started off with a margarita and a Qdoba burrito. Now I have my 32 ounce glass mug(frozen from being in the freezer) with a large black and tan in it, one full bottle of Harp and one full bottle of Guiness. Time for a refill.

I forgot to say thank you to America for creating two of my favourite beverages, Coke and Bourbon.
