How much is a everyday folder worth?

I buy what I like. A Buck 110 or Spyderco Walmart Native are good for the money, but you can get much nicer knives.

What I read into threads like this, it seems like the poster either wants people to convince him that buying an expensive knife is worth it, or to convince others that they are wasting their money.

There is no right answer.
Just buy what you like.

For an edc knife I wouldn't spend more then around $90. I mostly edc Kershaw knives and I'm on my fourth one now. I must admit that I'm horrible at losing knives.

i EDC my Large Classic Sebenza

Sebenza is Zulu for "work", it's made to be used :D

i figure it will last longer than i will. barring loss, i'll never need to buy another one

i think you could do a lot worse than a Delica4 at ~$50 though, i think if i didn't carry a Sebenza, it would likely be my Delica4

My ONLY folder is a Lg Classic Sebbie and it gets carried and used everyday.

If I ever get another folder (aside from a Busse, if I live that long), it will certainly be a Spydie. I just like the 'tude of that company.

$2000

A custom Crawford Kasper with mammoth ivory scales and "the works".

I don't actually own it...yet...but, I would pay for, and definitely carry, it.

$2000 is about what various pairs of firearms that I carry routinely are worth, so, a $2000 knife wouldn't be so odd.

The most expensive one I actually carry is a $485 Sebenza.

Wow, started with Leatherman then a Buck 110, then a Mini Presidio, then a Native, then a Mini Commander, then a Commander, then a Subcom, then a Manix, then an A.T.R., then a Para Military, then last night for some crazy reason I bought a large Sebenza and now I've decided I'm going to stop! Well, at least I'm gonna try.

I EDC a Small Sebenza and just got a used Strider SnG. Both are great knives and well worth what I spent on them, IMO. I like nice gear, period. And I make enough money to be able to have the nice things I like without taking from the family's interests. You only go around once and I'm trying to enjoy it to the fullest. The original poster stated that he was cheap, and that's fine. I'm not cheap, and that's fine as well.

an edc is probably only worth around 20 bucks, as you can get a knife that will perform any edc task for that much easily, without failing, for many years. Any cost above that is for something that has little to do with function. The G10 Cara Cara I've been carrying exclusively for the last few weeks works as well as knives I've paid 5 to 10 times the price on. I've still got discontinued, limited editions, and handmades that I've spent a good bit more on, but for edc anything with a bit of quality will get the job done.

just depends on what ya wanna spend, i have a spyderco delica SE i probably paid $40 for and it will do just fine for utility, if SD is what ya have in mind a CRKT kasper (~$20) isnt a bad option, but as far as what i would spend i carry a emerson custom CQC8 or CQC6 quite often and they are worth ~$1200 each, probably more now, i paid $700 for the '8 and $1050 for the '6 FWIW, i have seen '6s go for darned nigh $2K on ebay, just std ones like mine.

Once I buy a knife and the money is spent the price is irrelevant regarding its selection for carry -- am I comfortable carrying it and will it do the job. I have a plain standard Sebenza I bought with EDC in mind and found I preferred the Benchmade 940 I already carried, so I put the Sebenza in my backpack as a back-up. When I received a 940Ti I carried it for a while, but went back to the lighter weight standard plain edge 940. Then I got my first Ritter Grip and it replaced the Sebbie in my pack because I really prefer the axis lock. My rotation is a standard S30V 940, and Ritter Grips (RSK Mk 1) in S30V and M2. Usually I carry one of the S30V blades but occassionally M2 is a better choice so I'll put the RSKM2 in my pocket. So what does and RSKM2 run these days?

I don't think the car mechanic down the road who buys $2.99 gas station knives is going to see the point in spending big dollar$ on knives that he simply (even mindlessly) uses strictly as a tool. He might even think some of you with $40 Delica's are nuts.

I started out buying inexpensive production folders and have progressed into the near $200 range, with the occasional exception. Buy what fits your budget and enjoy what you buy. Even $2.99 gas station knives have their place.

If you think the price of a Sebenza or Strider is "nuts" for a cutting instrument, go get yourself into the world of watches. I think it may warp your perspective a bit. ;)

hi.iam new here but not new to the sport of knifes.i make alot of carry fixed blades but for everyday beater i call it i use a buck pilot i paid 14 dollars for and it holds a good edge for the priceif i lose it then i buy another one cheap enough without crying

I use a Handmade custom by Mark Lawrence and a Microtech Trodoon which I know is a OTF but I clip it and use it as I would a folder. Both around $800.00 total. I use but not ABuse my blades. I also carry a fixed blade for when I need to heap out some abuse on a blade. The Howling Rat by Swamp Rat Knife Works was designed to be abused, so it gets the call. It was $140.00
Peace.
