How often do you buy a new knife?

I used to buy a lot of new knives with new steel, interesting grinds, upcoming brands etc. at least 1-2 a month.

Now I've narrowed my interests and buy maybe 2-3 every 3-6 months. My tastes have gotten more expensive too, so I can't afford to buy as many as I used to.

Sometimes I will go three months without buying one, then I 'll buy three in a week. On average, I buy about one a month.

I've bought 2 inexpensive ones this past week, going to pick up a decent fixed blade this week. I was trying to save for one i really wanted but with repairs to my rig, it didn't happen. However, I usually wind up sporadically buying knives. 1 here, 1 there, It just depends on what designs are out that I enjoy on how many I pick up. Or what kick i'm on. I'm starting a Spear Point kick and a wave kick.....it's a disease.

I used to get one about every month. Since married it dropped to about one every 2-3 months. Since having a child it's dropped to none since lol.

It will probably be the last of my priorities so I'm shooting for 1-2 a year now.

I stopped getting productions last year. Being a lefty it drove me nuts not being able to get exactly what I wanted in a knife outside of getting a fixed blade, or an Axis lock Benchmade.
So now I only buy new knives when I get the call from the maker telling me it's ready. Last one was in April. I'll probably be getting 3 in about a 4 month span starting in November-ish. After that, nothing until next September.
It all depends on when my name comes up on a makers list

I had to carry left handed last week because of....accidents. Anyway, it immediately ruled out a good chunk of my collection. It got me thinking about the poor lefties who have to go through that all the time. That must be tough.

I've always had a couple cheap knives laying around but just really got into knife collecting this year. Made my first descent purchase on 3-4-15 and have since gathered up over 200 knives. So I'm averaging roughly 1 per day :D

Corey, you seem to be in a hurry.... what's the hurry?

And I know... you EDC a different one every day. ;)

Over the last 40+ years, it averages out to about 2 a week. But there would be times when I'd buy 0 knives over 9 to 18 month periods when I'd be deployed overseas. Kinda hard to find a knife shop in the Indian Ocean drilling holes in the water on Gonzo Station.

Many of those purchases have gone on to other hands. I'll buy a lot of 10 to 100 knives just to get 1 or 4 out of the bunch and then release the others.

I buy in spurts when there aren't a lot of bills and I just got paid. I have to balance the knife shopping with the gun shopping though.

There's just so many that I want. I've slowed down a little the past month, I think lol.

I've got several that get some pocket time, but most of em stay put up.

I rotate through different interests/hobbies. So I come back to it and grab a bunch, then I'm good for a while again. I usually get them, play with them for a few days, then toss them in a tub. When fishing or metal detecting etc. season is over, I take them out for use. I have new knives that I haven't even used yet. Maybe when the snow flies. Other than that, paying for post secondary classes is a priority, the toys second.

I try to buy only the knives I really, really like and not buying out of curiosity. The fact is curiosity often led to way better buys than love at first sight, or even second and third sight. Letting some time pass before buying is always a good medicine, though. Less fun, but healthy... for the wallet.

Over the past four months I've bought
5 PM2's, 2 Leeks, 940-1, 484-1, ZT0770CF, BM550HG and a CRKT.
So that works out to 3 knives a month.

I use to buy guns almost every other month. That's a lot more expensive a hobby than knives are so I cut back the gun buying and was able to purchase a blade once a month. I don't though. I usually really have to want something to buy it and right now I've got all the knives I'll ever need ... Though that doesn't explain why I've bought 4 this year alone, lol.

Actually my brother explains it pretty well. When you're single you buy anytime you want. When you're married you go to look.

It goes up and down for me depending an what deals I find this month I bought 10 knives. So I guess I would say 2-3 a week.

I got into knives a couple years ago, but haven't bought any for myself in 13 months. The last knife I bought was 12 months ago, as a wedding present for a friend (a Himalayan Imports British Army Service). I'd love to buy more, but money has been very tight lately.
