How often do you change your EDC?

I switch my edc daily sometimes I will switch when I go home for lunch. I will tend to favor a few knives for a month or six weeks then I'll switch that rotation for a bunch of other knives.

This is my current, there are a couple of Benchmades that aren't in the picture, an Adamas and an HK 14715.
I usually rotate daily, my 0770 is in my pocket today..

I carry a SAK all the time; have for years. If I carry a second blade, this is the one that gets rotated. But most often I only have the SAK on me.

I have carried my Barman1 Military since I got it from him a number of years ago. Sprinkle in a few others for a day or two here and there. I did get a new Benchmade 808 for Christmas that is getting more and more pocket time.

When I get a knife, unless it's a total loser, I'll carry it for 1 to 2 weeks to determine if it makes it's way into my EDC rotation. If it makes it's way into the rotation, another knife has to go because I only have 80 available slots. Yes, that's not a typo...80 knives in a carry rotation. Knives that get kicked out of rotation, or never make it in in the first place, end up stored in knife bags with the remaining 350 or so folders.

Out of my rotation, how long I carry a particular knife varies. I have different types for different needs. Many are office friendly and I only get to carry my bigger blades on weekends or while working around the house. Some may, and have, gone months without being carried. Those knives end up being candidates for kicking when new knives come into the pack and perform better. Some knives in my rotation get carried a lot...like some of my small Sebenzas. In general, I think I average 2-3 days per blade.

Every now and then I'll get a hankering to fondle a blade that's been relegated to a knife bag for some time. I'll locate it on my inventory sheet and dig it out and wonder why the heck haven't I been carrying it all along. Sometimes its fun to open a random knife bag and fondle all the knives I forgot I owned :).

It's really the entire process of Natural Selection distilled down to a population of folding knives .

My work edc tends to be pretty stable since I stick with what's working best for me. Victorinox Swisstool and a Benchmade Adamas for the last several months and currently. A new pocket knife may get thrown in the mix in addition to them for a while in order to check it out to see how it meets my expectations, but I keep coming back to these two. I'm considering trying some different modern folder options though, so those would displace the Adamas at least during the "get to know you" phase. After that, we'll see.

Non-work edc is a little different. That's whatever SAK I think best fits my plans that day (most often a Ranger) along with whatever happens to be new in my collection, seemed like a good fit for my plans or that I was feeling nostalgic about at the time. Unfortunately, I have to work far more than I get to play, so this carry situation doesn't happen all that often.

I always carry a leatherman blast with me everyday. I usually switch out the folder every 2 weeks just depending on the mood

Always my Pacific Salt 24/7 and a MT/SAK of some sort. I carry a 2nd folder most days, too

Going on 15 years now, when I find one that works, I stick with it. It starts with "V" and rhymes with "ictorinox", lol...

I pick one out of a rotation of about ten knives every morning. The rotation changes a bit from time to time.

Thats a question my wife has asked me, why so many knives? But I never change my EDC, except for my folder, Im usually carrying the newest one I bought

I have about five folding knives the I use in my normal EDC rotation:

Benchmade 531

Benchmade Griptilian 551

Kershaw Zing (US made)

SAK Cadet

Cutco 1891

Most of the time the BM 531 or Zing is in my pocket but the Cadet occasionally gets used for formal dress occasions even though the 531 was purchased for that role.

The Griptilian steps forward for pocket duty when I need a little larger folder and the Cutco is in the mix just because. When I am bored with my collection and want something new, out comes the Cutco for a few days. It really makes me appreciate the other knives I own.

These five folders see more action than anything else I own. A fixed blade gets thrown into the mix from time to time. As does some sort of multi-tool.

For my true EDC, it never changes. I have had a Vic Waiter knife in my pocket for many years.

I change up the clip-knife I carry frequently; I have been carrying the beautiful ZT0999 since I received it and am really loving that blade.

I will go back to rotating my other knives in at some point, but the 999 is a star right now.

I have also started carrying a Kershaw/Hinderer Cinder - that has proved itself a very handy little knife, but it can't slice an apple so the Vic is unchallenged.

I occasionally ditch the clip knife and carry another traditional as a change of pace since I have so many gorgeous traditionals.

It is good to have problems of this nature.

Change? EDC means something, you know. If you are often changing your knife you don't really have an EDC knife.

I change my EDC once every couple of years or so.

Excellent point. I've carried my last three EDC's for two solid yrs each: large Classic Sebbie, Zaan, Southard AVO.
