How often do you change your EDC?

Mine is also activity based, but also bag based. I've gotten used to hauling a backpack everywhere, so there is an explorer in one of the pockets. And since I now need to really think about what I'm eating, there is a stainless opinel#8 in my grub kit. Skeletool in my Ribz pack while at work, and usually a roadie in my pocket. At home its generally pants based, so pocket-clip or not, and lockers only when I'm out doing something to justify it, otherwise its a Vic, or spy-dk. The roadie and the explorer are the closest I come to a constant EDC

I'm a creature of habit so once I find something that works for me, I tend to keep with it. While I'm still occasionally temped with many a new modern folder or small/medium fixed blades, I tend to pass and stick to a small rotation of SAKs and trappers. For the past several months and foreseeable future, it is one of two SAKs (depending on the day's needs/circumstances) and my trustee AA light.

I like certain forms myself like knives that sit very flat in the pocket if it has a pocket clip, this Cara Cara 2 sits exactly the same as a Delica or a Manix lw for that matter...

I have 3 "sets" of EDC knives.

The first set is what I have on me when I leave the farm, as I must meet certain State laws for public carry -

A pair of Kabar 3/4 Shorties fixed blades, a 1260 and a 1255
A Kabar rigging knife in my LFP
A Buck 501 in my RFP
A Kabar BK11 in my LRP
A Pro-Tech TR4 clipped to my RFP.

The only changes to this are::

I will substitute a pair of KABAR 1232s if the shorties need sharpening and I haven't had time to spruce the shorties up.

I substitute a pair of Western L46-5s for September 11, October 15, October 17, and October 19.

My second set of EDCs are my "around the farm" EDC knives -

I don't carry the Pro-Tech around the farm. I replace 1 or more of the fixed blades with larger, "illegal for public carry" blades, simply because what I do every day changes and so do the knife requirements. These fixed blades will chosen from the following, depending on the tasks of the day, -

Kabar Becker BK9, Kabar 1217/1281, or 1 of 25 (or more) machetes scattered around the farm - I have a "machete/axe/bow saw/lopper/chopping hoe" combo in every building on the farm just so I have what I need when/where I need it - Home place Barn, Old Home place Barn, Lower Farm Barn, Equipment Shed, Workshop (at least 8 in various states of maintenance), Garage Apartment, Tractor Storage shed, Tool Shed, Garage, as well as a machete behind the truck seat, in each vehicle trunk (2), strapped to the tractor roll cage, and 5 scattered around the house.

My 3rd set of EDC knives are my EFOC, "every formal carry occasion", i.e., for church, funerals, weddings, quincieneras, reunions, or any time I am REQUIRED to wear a suit.

I've gone the 1 knife for 10+ yrs thing with a couple of knives, but as I get older I realize it wasn't that fun. It kept me from buying a bunch of knives that I really liked the look of, and if I did buy something different, I wouldn't carry it. Screw it, life's too short. I enjoy owning and using different firearms, fishing rods and reels, and pocket knives. I have a job rotation(size restrictions), a work around the house rotation, a fishing rotation, and an everything else rotation now, so I rotate often. Much more fun.

Everyday, all depends on weather/season and intended/anticipated use for that day.

When I'm home, I switch EDCs daily and sometimes I'll change my knives during the day. It depends on what I'm wearing, since some pant just work better with certain knives. I change clothes a couple of times a day for different activities so I sometimes change my knives and tools as well.

When I travel or stay at my girlfriend's for a few weeks, I bring a couple of folders and multitools. For instance, I'm staying with her now and brought a Delica (it's summer here, small folders ride well in my shorts) and a CS AK-47 in case I need something tougher.

I have fixed blades, flippers, non-flippers, and autos and I rotate them as my EDC every day or every other day. I might carry a new knife for a few days straight and then i get back to changing my rotation ED or EOD

I currently have a knife in my pocket, that I don't see coming out of my pocket any time soon. This will be an EDC for years.

Back when I was in the Army (steady paycheck!!) I rotated between 5-7 folders. Now that I am out and going back to school, I have reevaluated my life. I am wanting to get back outdoors: more camping, hiking, and fishing; back to nature. So now I have one folder (Emerson CQC-8) but am now focusing more on fixed blades that will serve my outdoors lifestyle.

TKC. What knife is that? I like the look of it.

Never changed it in years. Everyday carry is every day after all. ;-) Mine is a Laguiole Extra made by G.David, on my belt since Christmas... 1989. The horn hilt has darkened quite a bit with my DNA and the blade has been sharpened so often that it is visibly narrower than when new. On the other hip sits a Leatherman, classic model of 20 years plus or minus, and in my pocket a Leatherman squirt. Always those three. I add to those when neccessary.
