How often do you lose pocketknives?

Have "misplaced" plenty over the years and stick to the old adage that if you want to find something, stop looking for it.It works!

Biggest loss was a small Sebe. Still not looking for it.

I took your advice and stopped looking for it, and tonight I found it when I was looking for something else I lost! I'm so happy! My acid-etched dragonfly, it's here in my hand again!

I found it on the floor in the corner of my living room underneath a footrest.

Earlier today I was seriously considering buying the one on eBay for $200 too! Now that I know how expensive this would be to replace it's not leaving the house. Maybe I'll buy one of the cheaper FRN handled ones for EDC.

For me only two, my very first one, I don't even remember what brand it was, but it was a two blade slipjoint with what must have been a carbon steel blade because I remember it had quite a patina, I had it for 2 years before I lost it in 4th grade. The other was a copy of a microtech with an axis lock I got at a gunshow but I really liked it (and before I knew knives) I had that one for about 4 years but lost it when I was climbing an volcanic ash/pumice hill around the diamond lake/ crater lake area. Fell in and sunk was buried with in a second or two and every step I took downward towards it buried and moved it. Spent about half an hour looking for it before I gave up, lost that one at 14. I got into "good" knives about 4 or 5 years ago (first was a Para 1) and haven't lost a good knife so far, but I'm the same as a couple other of the posters in which I'm a bit OCD about use and storage, when ever I use it I take it out, use it and put it back into my pocket as soon as I'm done I very rarely set it down anywhere, and when I get home I put it back into the storage drawers where I keep my others right on my dresser so I've never lost one in a pocket even temporarily. The closest I've come is losing a Spyderco Salt 1 for about a week in my GF's couch cushions, but I knew that I lost it at her house and that it was in her living room somewhere so I found it as soon as I visited the next time.

I can honestly say I have never lost one. I have found every knife I'd ever dropped or misplaced. I've also had the same pen for the last 12 years or so.

The only knife I've ever lost was a Kershaw Whirlwind...twice due to a loose pocket clip. Luckily my third one has a much tighter one.

Now that I think about it, I've lost two Leathermen. One was stolen from my luggage last year when I went to Vegas and the other just plain old went missing a few years back.

once in 40 years and it had to be my Benchmade Barrage at the dump, loved that knife.

Glad to hear you found it.

How about a lanyard. I have one for a knife I carry at work. It clips on to my belt.

I was given a New York made Camillus Barlow 51 (guessing 1960's) in 1980 when I turned 12. I still have it along with every other decent knife I have ever owned. I've lost a couple of SAK's and some junk knives that found their way into my possession but I've never lost any of my quality knives. (knocks on wood) Being a creature of habit, I tend to put stuff back where it belongs and this helps that stuff from getting lost.

ETA: the one I'd like to have back? I gave my groomsmen personalized black scale SAK tinkers when I got married 20 years ago and got one for myself with my initials on it. Gone after my honeymoon. I swear it's still in the luggage...

During one of our frequent moves, my dad lost an electrician's knife that his father, a railroad electrician, gave him when he was a kid. He carried it for most of his life until then, and was understandably troubled by the loss.

I've had a few inexpensive ones sort of "disappear" in storage myself, but never one that I was regularly carrying, and nothing terribly valuable. Nonetheless, up until recently my philosophy has been to carry cheap "disposable" knifes that can be readily replaced (e.g. Swiss Army, Gerber LST, LST2, and Mini-Swagger). From time to time, I would look longingly at higher production knives or customs, but figured I would lose it. However, recently I realized that I've managed not to lose, for example, the iPhones I've been carrying for the past 5 years, and decided I would take a chance on a small Sebenza. I'm very pleased with the purchase and it will be a sad day if we ever involuntarily part company.

(It also reawakened an interest in knife collecting that has been nearly dormant since I was a teenager, so I suspect more knives are on the way. I already picked up a ZT0560 that I found at a good price. Those cheap Gerbers feel like garbage after handling the CRK for the past few weeks.)

I almost lost my first knife when I was living in campus dorms before. It was a cheap master usa knife, but it was still my edc back then. One day it was just gone and I had no idea what happened to it. I thought it was a goner then later in the year I find it sitting on my desk in front of my keyboard. Never found out who put it back though.

Besides that I've lost a cheap swiss army knife knock off I got for free. Thinking it was left in my back pack for whenever it might be needed, when I actually needed the corkscrew on there I couldn't find it anywhere. Still lost to this day but luckily it was a free cheapie.

Lost one at work one day, but found it hooked to a box I was just about to throw away. Now I try and avoid pocket clips at work and use a lanyard with the knife in my pocket. No troubles yet. Knock knock. Plus i have a bad habit of constantly touching myself..... In the pocket area.

I lost a boyscout knife sledding, my pocket came unzipped, and I lost a small multi tool in my field somewhere. Now I check every time I sit down and get up and more besides that. Biggest scare wasn't a knife. I made a dumba** mistake with a shotgun when I was About 15. I was hunting in some Jack pines for squirrels for the first time after purchasing a used Browning pump for $250. I had just shot a squirrel and after putting it in the game bag, then I reached into my pocket to grab some more shells. I realized that almost all my shells had fallen out on the way in through thick brush. I put my gun down and noted where I left it, then walked away to look for some of my shells so I could keep hunting. Didn't listen to the little voice that said " don't do that". Needless to say, I returned after finding some of my shells and couldn't find my gun. spent about 25 mins. frantically looking, to the point where I got down on my knees and prayed I would find it, because if I didn't my dad was going to tan my hide and then some. Found it about ten mins after that. Never, ever will do that again.

Almost lost my byrd. I drove 125 miles round trip and found it 24 hours later in the snow.

Btw no rust either!

I like the lanyard too. I almost left my camera in a taxi in Mexico. Luckily i looked back. Now it and my knives have lanyards.

I havent lost one yet, but am paranoid as $#!* when I carry my more expensive ones...

I don't lose that many anymore, but I lost a fair share when growing-up.

I have surrendered a few since 9/11 when I forget to take one out of my pockets and am rushed to catch a plane at the airport.
