How often do you see 'higher end' knives out in public (other than in your own pocket)?

The very first time happened last week at a pool tourney.
One of the other players recognized my Sebbie clip.....and showed me his well beat up, but sharp 21. I was absolutely shocked.
Pretty cool.

Best I've gotten is a beat to hell Spyderco Endura 2 or 3, fully serrated that a cop had. Seen some big box brands, Gerber, Kershaw, SOG, but nothing else really. Haven't even seen anything better at knife shows, but that's largely because I'm looking at tables only there.

Ive never seen someone out and about carrying anything good. every pocket clip ive ever seen being carried was connected to a cheap crappy former car bumper inside the pocket.Just once id like to recognize something good....

I live in GA. We have no real (super liberal) or enforced knife laws. You’d think I’d see some great knives. Not a chance. I see a lot of well loved and used knives, but never a mid-tech or even a CRK.

The most common knives I see are Kershaw Leeks and Blurs, and occasionally Lestherman Multitools.

Mostly hard to tell. Only see the clip, and don’t want to be caught staring at another guy’s crotch area...;-(
Exactly. I see pocket clips all the time but I'm not going to approach a total stranger to ask them what kind of knife they are carrying. BTW the last fixed blade I saw in public was September last year, it was a Buck 119 with cocobolo handle.

I’ve seen everything from Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, CRKT, BRKT and TOPS to CRK (mostly Sebenza although I’ve seen a Green Beret, a Nyala and a few OPK over the years), Emerson, Strider(mostly fixed blades but a rare few folders too), Busse and Randall. Most of my encounters have been on or about military bases though.

About a week or two ago whilst shopping in the local grocery store, I saw a guy with something like a KaBar-type fixed dangling from his belt...it was the smaller, more practical 'companion' to the two-handed broadsword he had strapped across his back.o_O That was a first as well.

Way cool!

The nicest knife I've seen in the wild in 2018 was a Kershaw Cyro. Almost everyone I work with carries knives but it's all gas station specials and pull through sharpeners for them.

Outside of one or two friends and my dad, I don't know of any other knife enthusiasts local to me. I tend to think I'm the only one in a 100 mile radius.

Never having owned, or even seen in person, a high-end knife myself, I wouldn't recognize one just by the clip anyway.

I do notice a lot of people carrying knives, but have no idea what most are. I'll occasionally recognize Kershaws, Gerbers, or CRKT's, with the rare sighting of a Spyderco, ZT or such. But even those a few and far between.

Now, when I'm at the range, it's not as uncommon to see $100-$300 stuff in someones pocket, but again, I couldn't tell you if it was a Benchmade or a full custom unless you told me anyway.

Never.
But with the laws stating that we can't carry knives unless they are for work, or fishing/camping, I never see anyone carrying knives at all.
None of my friends, however peripheral they might be, are interested in knives.

I did have a quick look at CKF's customer-radar and noticed someone in my tiny little town had bought one, so maybe I'm not alone in being into knives.

I notice a lot of pocket clips since I’m in farm country, but I think they’re mostly big box store type knives as the feeling is the knife is going to be hard used and just tossed when shot, then replaced. Paying “big bucks” for a knife doesn’t make sense to them.

At the range, see a lot of better knives, or when I was still in the service, then an LEO, I seen a lot of better knives there as well.

But not so much any more. If it were not for these forums, it’d probably get kinda discouraging being a knife enthusiast since there really isn’t anyone local to me anymore to talk knives with and do show and tell.

I have never seen anything "higher end" than a Kershaw or Spyderco. I have spotted 2 Rolex watches in the wild though.

I might have seen some folks having tiny SAKs on keychains.
Other than that, no.

Edit: Accidental post.

Chiming in again about when you do see something o note it isn't well maintained.

Employee of mine showed me his full sized Griptilian and it was as hard to open as a slip joint. Politely told him was time to clean it out.

Never for me, but I probably wouldn't randomly approach someone based on that anyhow. I've actually had one guy comment on the custom I had in my pocket at a gas station but I was in a hurry and didn't realize what he was asking about. I still regret not taking the time to talk to him haha. My one possible public knife-nut encounter and I blew it
