How public are you with your knives?

Hey everybody,

I was just curious as to how public everyone is with their knives, because to some degree it is looked down upon/scares the sheeple. Do y'all show your knives to other people only during use, or do you bring knives up in everyday conversation, or maybe wear knife-related clothing, post pictures of your blades on social media, etc? Also please tell if you live in a more politically left-leaning or right-leaning area.

Thanks.

I generally carry a SAK, never shy of pulling it out to use for cutting or any other of the tools.

I use my knife when needed and have zero qualms when doing so. I'll show my knife or talk knives to other people I know that are into knives. Otherwise I don't swing it around like a crazy person or use it at a restaurant. Knives are pretty common in the area I live and obviously in my profession.

It's frowned upon more to not be carrying a knife where I come from. I live in Texas. Everybody has knives and guns here :D

I got no problem using my knife for food in a restaurant, but try not to use my knife in the middle of a crowd of people at Walmart ( other than my neck knife that's small enough to go unseen )

.I'm usually with friends and family when I'm out, and they know where to look to get something cut 😁
I don't just hang out in public places ( coffee shops, book stores, malls ...ect ) so I don't really have to worry about knives in public very often .

I use mine in public with no qualms, sometimes to cut food or just to cut whatever needs cutting. Used it last night at the VFW to cut my sandwich nobody blinks an eye other than to want to fondle it. Usually showing off their knives at the same time. Lot of switchblades being carried since the Texas law changed. Lot of guns and knives around the area i'm in. Nobody blinks an eye. Lady at the DMV borrowed mine to open a box last time I renewed my license there, she asked if anyone had a knife and 5 guys in line and all of us had a knife. I do post pics on social media.

I use it when I need/want to.

Bingo!
I used my large Seb today at a Michaels craft store. Some folks looked a little funny when I took it out, but when they saw I was using it to get Crap out of the wheel on the cart I got some smiles.
Currently residing in central NJ.

Use my carry knives when I want to cut something, not a big fan of being seen / noticed in general so I would be very discreet regardless.

I use , talk about knives whenever I freaking feel like it, completely without regard for what other people may think. . I give ABSOLUTELY NO consideration to what other people/sheeple may think. If you do....I feel sorry for you...that the issue even crosses your mind, let alone that you post the issue.

The darkness of Penn's Woods has some people who are, shall we say.... unaccustomed to the idea of a person carrying a cutting tool with them.

I don't like the word "sheeple", and I try not to use it. Let me step off my soapbox, now.

I use my knife, if I need it, but I'm careful about it. I treat it as a necessary tool, but one that needs to be used carefully.

I use my knife as needed. I take it out without fanfare and put it away as soon as I am finished using it.

+1. I use it when I need to, never make a production out of it, and put it away when done. Sometimes it's a small Spyderco or SAK, other times it's my MiniGrip, ZT, or Opinel.

I don't like the term sheeple, because it's disrespectful. That said, I live in a state where most people carry a knife, and so having a knife with you, and pulling it out doesn't tend to raise eyebrows. To answer your specific questions:

- I tend to have an understanding of folks in my surroundings. I generally do not take out my knives to show them around or talk about them, for the same reasons I don't take out my conceal carry firearm. There's not really a need to communicate the fact that I am carrying tools to others.

- I don't tend to bring up knives around non-knife folks, which is reciprocated when those sorts of folks don't try to entangle me in a conversation in their hobbies they know I don't share. It tends to work out for everybody.

- I don't wear knife-related clothing often, because I only have a couple of shirts.

- I do post up pictures of my knives on social media, as I have both an Instagram and a Flickr that I make no attempt to hide as belonging to me. I'm not ashamed of being a knife-owner. All of my friends, coworkers, and family know that I'm a knife guy, and in the office, I'm the knife guy, so I've been approached often by coworkers and friends asking for knife advice, which I'm glad to give.

- Politics of any kind don't really belong in General, so I will refrain from any discussion there.

I use it when I need it, but to be honest, my knives are all fairly small (3.25" or less) and non-threatening. I just don't care to haul around a pocket-brick or some huge tactical pig-sticker or axe-substitute, anymore. So... anything I use in public isn't likely to disturb anyone, even non-knife people.

I take it out and use it when needed, and don't make a big deal out of it or draw attention to myself. I don't talk about knives with people unless they ask (which happens more often than you would think actually!) However, I live in Texas and we are generally pretty knife friendly.

I live in south central Pennsylvania, just south of Harrisburg. I carry a knife everywhere but the airport, and I generally don't have too many worries. I'm never flashy or whipping them around to make a show. If I need to cut something, I pull it out and use it. From time to time I get disgusted/fearful looks, but it's not common. I try not to spend much time in/around the city, or Wal-marts though. In college, in my technical/shop classes everybody has a knife and is using it. In my gen-ed courses, well, I have a lot of liberal classmates who probably think I'm a murderer. *shrugs*
