How public are you with your knives?

I have liked axes since I was a wee lad, I don't know if I can put my finger on exactly why like them so much, I think I'm down to about 25 axes and hawks currently.

I smell "Axe Murderer", these posts are a cry for help :)

"Sheeple?" The irony is that the folks who like to toss that one out don't understand that they're just sheep from a different flock. Back on topic - being from South Carolina, all "gentlemen" are expected to have a knife on their person when leaving the house.

I tend to be discrete in public and generally stay situation-ally aware. I'm not afraid of what other people will think. I think it's just common courtesy. I don't want to be the guy who brandishes a knife in public, out of context, and in a situation where I know it will raise eyebrows just because "I can" and "there is no law against it."

The good thing about sc is knife laws are very minimal. My neighbor cop told me i can legally conceal a fixed blade if i wanted too

With the exception of the laws concerning switchblades (see my signature),
I find CA knife laws to be pretty reasonable

Yes, I went through a bali/auto phase (and have the arrests to prove it) but waved knives and fixed blades cured me. I don't own any.

Some wobbly bread knife without a point was not considered a "dirk or dagger" in a california law case and thus it's concealed carry was not deemed unlawful.
So there are fixed knives which are legal to conceal though it wouldn't be what one would normally carry and it will probably only be determined legal after a court case which means lost money and time even if you win :-(

My brain is swimming trying to understand the point of your post.

I think the point is in the definitions used in CA knife laws and that some fixed blade knives concealed would not be considered weapons, but might well be determined in court and who wants to spend a bunch of money defending a butcher knife or a vegetable chopping knife as legal in CA in the first place unless your butt is on the line. I would choose just to avoid the whole matter and play it safe.

Rural Michigan, nobody cares. People here carry knives. They open carry guns too. No big deal. Never had an issue in public. My wife has an aunt who has to make a comment everytime I use my knife, of course this is at holliday get together and she's obviously not equipped to open packages. So she can stfu.

Hey everybody,

I was just curious as to how public everyone is with their knives, because to some degree it is looked down upon/scares the sheeple. Do y'all show your knives to other people only during use, or do you bring knives up in everyday conversation, or maybe wear knife-related clothing, post pictures of your blades on social media, etc? Also please tell if you live in a more politically left-leaning or right-leaning area.

Thanks.

I live in the same sh!t hole state you do. At work/home I play with my knives a lot. Out in public not so much.

Do y'all show your knives to other people only during use, - Yes, if someone happens to be looking my way when I take out my knife, use it, and put it away again.
or do you bring knives up in everyday conversation, - No.
or maybe wear knife-related clothing, - No.
post pictures of your blades on social media - Yes, if you count Bladeforums as social media. I don't use any other social media products.

If you see it as a reply to this which comes up quite often it might make more sense.

Most people think all fixed knives have to be open carried in Ca. But it's just dirk and daggers. They have a broad definition but there are still a few fixed knives which don't fall under it. Those could be carried concealed.

My MACVSOG is partially double edged...

I use my knives in front of people all the time...like if I'm at a customers house cutting zip ties or working on something. I'll open it and occasionally get the "wow...that's a knife...." to which I reply "yep, gotta have the right tool for the job!" or something like that.

I will have one clipped to my pocket everywhere I go, but I won't make a public display and pull it out and play with it when I'm walking through the supermarket or anything like that. I will play with it while I'm driving but not hang it out the window. I think there are certain places where, while it's not illegal and I probably won't get in trouble for it, there's just no reason to have it out unless you're trying to provoke people to say something/look at you funny.

Good point. A person s attitude when using his knife can be a factor in other people s response to it s presentation. I personally don t make a big deal out of using my knife. But I don t dramatically flick open my Military when taking it out. Common sense.
