Sorry this format didn't work out Mike , I'd just do what's easiest for you and your system.

OK, this has turned out to be way more expensive and time consuming that I am interested. After this run of #77's is gone I am thinking about some other solutions and want input.
I can feel your pain. Sorry for the hassle. I would encourage you to bear with us through this. Hopefully the second time around everybody knows the routine and things will go a lot smoother.

A) Add them to the Early Reserve System unannounced and hope the server doesn't crash
B) Make 500 of the same knife in addition to letter A
C) Put them on eBay with a buy it now that has 15% built in to cover the extra costs
D) Any other option that is less work and people won't show up and beat me with a stick

I have been cussed like a dog by several customers aggravated that they are 0-2 via emails. Personally if that is what they have in their heart they can go, but I don't want to aggravate others in the future.
You can't please everyone and I'm not surprised that some people will be disappointed. It upsets me that you are being cussed at and generally put though the wringer with this whole process, though. It kind of sucks the fun out. :(

To answer your question: I would be in favor of option B. I admit this may be for selfish reasons, since it might be easier for me to score one, and I don't have the budget to buy multiples anyway.

For @Jsega51:

I've reserved and bought seven knives from you in 2018 - two months. (I don't know if this is a lot or a little in the scheme of things. I'm sure others have bought a lot more.) I don't want to think about how many I've bought since "early last year." Seems liked I'd have had a better shot at the one I wanted if I hadn't used ERS at all, and gotten an extra entry? I guess I just don't get why put in the effort to try to please many people who will not buy another knife from your until the next big run.

So, people that can afford to buy many knives should have priority?

Split them up between A,B,C options.
Do a sign up for the BF members here, first come first serve.
Make an announcement for them all at one time. Let the chips fall where they may.

I was lucky to be picked on the micarta run, would love to trade for a sawcut or ironwood so keep me in mind everyone. Mike, it seems tragic to me that you are catching any grief at all. I mean good lord what else does the guy have to do to make this fair when none of us should even have an expectation that he does so in the first place? It’s all extra credit and speaks to his character. Thank you for the chance Mike

I thought this lottery system is fair and works well. I am 2-0 so far but even if I was 0-2 I think it is fair. However, since it is more expensive and time consuming than anticipated, it is obviously not a good solution. Maybe just list them unannounced, one cover at a time on the ER system. I guess there could also be perhaps 20% sent to eBay as an auction. That way guys have a chance on the ER system and if they really want a specific cover they can bid on eBay, but not just one or two of each cover but 20 or so to keep the price from getting out of control yet still some extra profit for Mike.

The cussing Mike out-upset-whiny pants people...GET A LIFE! It's a freaking pocket knife! Even if you're a flipper missing out, look at the big picture. You sure as heck aren't going to feed your family flipping slipjoint knives. Good grief.

On a side note, I am reminded once again how wonderful the Ignore feature can be.

Anywho, thanks for offering some creative solutions Mike. This is still fun, and stress free to boot.
