Why do people continue to buy Spydercos on eBay?

You do know there's about 100 reputable websites where you can get a Spyderco Military, right??
Even if you are potentially saving a few bucks, is it worth the risk, and the worrying, and the making forum topics asking for help, just to save a few bucks??

Get your money back while the gettings good, then report to eBay and paypal for that matter. For every legitimate knife on eBay there are several fakes. Stay away from evil bay! I've almost got burned several times over the years, I will never take the risk again. like you said though there were many behind you willing to get taken by this criminal.

Whether it is fake, or it isn't- if you question it's authenticity, ship it back. Even if everybody told you it was real- which they definitely haven't, you would always have that inkling in the back of your mind. That would ruin the knife for me. As for whether he knew it was a fake or not, I would send him a link to this thread. Make him aware that it is a fake and that you have been advised as such. Then see if he relists it. If he does, report him to ebay. Who knows, maybe he got bamboozled too.

As far as I know, the legit orange military's have a hex pivot screw rather than a Torx pivot.

I got scammed before for a fake southard, it happens...

I couldn't agree with you more...!!

There's been a run of orange and green lately.
I should of asked a few questions before bidding...!!! Like I said before I should of known better...I really think this seller knows it's fake...I need to get my money back then I'll contact Ebay AND keep my eyes open to see if he relists it

Seller has either sold at least two more of them in the last month, or this one will be making its third trip back to SC. Make sure to use eBay's procedures to return it. Otherwise, you could wind up out both the money and the fake Military.

I just received a orange Spyderco Military in the mail I bought from Ebay...I'm pretty sure it's FAKE and I should of knew better !!! but anyhoo I contacted the seller telling him the knife maybe a fake, his response was " If your not happy with the knife you can return for a full refund " which is a good thing !!! But should I take any other actions, like contacting Ebay or Spyderco or should I just get my money back and chalk it up as a learning experience...:grumpy:

Hi Steve,

FIRST & FOREMOST: DON'T EVER BUY ANY TYPE OF KNIFE FROM PHIL GLACKIN!
https://www.facebook.com/phil.glackin?fref=ts

I learned the exact same lesson, well over a year ago. I purchased an Orange Military off of Ebay member Quicktriangle from Springfield Massachusetts. His real name is Phil Glackin; he is a MMA fighter (which I found out due to his Facebook profile). It turns out that he sold several fake Military's on Ebay & a couple of other high end knives on one of the forums.

When the Military arrived, it had an orange anodized back spacer bar, (instead of the factory black color that Spyderco uses) & the blade steel also didn't look quite right. I contacted the seller, & Phil told me that he had purchased several of these Orange Military's at the NCAA Basketball tournament tent sale, from Stoddard's Cutlery located in Springfield MA. I contacted the owner of Stoddard's Cutlery (I believe his name was Dave) & we had a very long chat. Dave was one of the nicest guys that I have ever spoken with. He told me that Phil was lying, that he hadn't sold at any of these type events in over 10 years. I also contacted Spyderco, & their rep (Charlene), told me that Spyderco never used an orange back spacer on their Orange Military's...

I went back on to Ebay & checked out all of the feedback for Quicktriangle, (which by the way his feedback was 100%)& low & behold, another member had commented that he, UNKNOWINGLY (yeah right) sold him a fake, but since he refunded the money he gave Phil the benefit of the doubt & still left him positive feedback. I contacted that buyer (another BF member) & he shared a wealth of information with me regarding Phil Glackin's fraudulent practices.

To make an even longer story shorter...I contacted Ebay & Paypal & filed a dispute. Quicktriangle's Ebay account was subsequently closed, & approximately 2 weeks later, I was refunded $240 under Paypal's buyer protection policy (this was before EBay's purchase of Paypal). BTW- I spend quite of time searching Quicktriangle's feedback & found 3 other Ebay member's who also purchased fake Military's from him. I contacted them, & all 3 (one a BF member) were also refunded the money they paid for the counterfeit Spyderco's they purchased from Phil Glackin aka quicktriangle.

I learned my lesson regarding Spyderco counterfeit knives & Ebay...DON'T DO IT!!!

As for Phil Glackin... https://www.facebook.com/phil.glackin?fref=ts
I wonder what alias he is using today? I hope that he cleaned up his act, but when it comes to con artist's, I highly doubt it.

I hope that this helps out, Steve. Best of luck on getting this worked out.

Good info....when am I getting my margaritas???

I forgot to mention, that since the thief that was selling these counterfeit's was caught, & his Ebay account closed (& by the way- he knew he was selling fakes, because even after he was confronted & caught by another buyer, he re-listed & tried to sell the exact same knife on one of the knife forums), I was able to keep the POS fake Military, along with my refund. I ended up giving this Military to a guy in Orange County, who shipped this out to one of his USMC buddies over in Afghanistan. I hope that he beat the hell out of that knife!

Let me know when you plan on coming down this way, Sean, margaritas & food are on me, brother!

"maybe im a Spyderco noob but this doesn't look fake to me"
A lot of things in life don't appear to be fake:

Steve,
Please let us know what EBay's customer service representatives in the Philippines, have to say tomorrow. Just be really sweet with them, & they will gladly make the extra effort to make things right.

The seller may be expecting/hoping you will return the item at your expense and then refund only your original purchase price and original shipping. This plays out all the time on ebay. The buyer ends up eating the return shipping expense and walks away from the marketplace with a bad taste in his mouth warning others of his bad experience, while the seller gets the counterfeit item back to sell to another unwitting buyer. Many people complain about the counterfeit items on ebay and scam sellers both of which are numerous but, from what I can tell, very few put forth the time and effort to actually do anything about it.

Be sure to use ebay's resolution center by selecting the "resolve a problem" option for this item using the reason not as described and specify that it is a counterfeit. All communication with the seller will be documented and become part of the claim if escalated, so use the term counterfeit in your communication when referencing the item and demand that the seller pay the cost for the return shipping. If the seller balks on your demand, escalate your case to a claim when the time limit allows and then offer to ship the counterfeit item to ebay to be destroyed rather than sending it back to the seller. After you get your payment refunded, leave negative feedback for the seller and report every single one of the seller's auctions for the same knife to ebay as a counterfeit item (Report item) and to the manufacturer they are counterfeiting.
