How to find Case CV blades

Awesome, Blues. Can't wait to hear back.

One of the great things about CV is that each blade patinas differently, depending upon how it is used. I like the idea of having a knife that is ccompletely unique to me, even if it is only a production knife.

Let's see, do I feel like cutting strawberries or peaches tonight?...

Well, Tony's already gotten back to me with contact info so there's our start.
Good thing he didn't give me the guy's home number. ;)

HooWah! That's the first step.

And it was strawberries. Gives a bluish hue to CV.

Well I did get my hopes up, I just cant help it.
A custom knife shop like Buck's would be great - not a good treatment for our addiction though.:p

By the way, thats a great avatar you've got there Blues. I've admired that knife in the thread before, but now its right in front of me

Thanks for getting in contact with case.

Just got off the phone with Case's Director of Marketing.

Had a pleasant discussion and gave him some background about this sub-forum and the general areas of interest of its members etc.

I advised him that our members are hoping to see more offerings in CV including a variety of patterns as well as scale material. I specifically mentioned some patterns that folks have requested here such as Barlows, Straight Knives and classic patterns like the 6347, 6249 etc. (Straight knives seem a long shot at the moment in CV as they are reluctant to offer a knife without a coating to prevent oxidation.)

I mentioned that many of us would like to see the Bose collaboration knives (and Bose patterns such as saddlehorn, swayback, sowbelly etc) offered in CV and that our members would be willing to carry and use them, not just put them on a shelf. I have no doubt that a run of such knives in CV would sell out.

The collaboration knives may be on the back burner for a while as it would require more setup ($) for those limited runs versus the more standard production.

I was advised that the yellow handled trapper in CV remains Case's best selling knife, so it isn't as if Case isn't aware that there is a corps of CV devotees out there.
CV knives were estimated at being about 5 to 10% of Case's production.

I have offered the following suggestions to Case:

1. That they can pick our collective brains and thoughts for future knife runs. That I'd be willing to post a poll in the forum, for example, giving the option of choosing between several patterns and scale materials in order to help them determine what might be feasible for an anticipated run.

2. That they can contact me anytime to exchange ideas and get feedback both from me and the forum members to help in any way we can with helping them keep a finger on the pulse of what knife users and collectors are hoping to see.

Finally, I was told that there are a couple of new patterns in CV anticipated for release this autumn and that more are projected for 2009. (I suggested that most in this forum would be interested in the non-fluorescent scale materials that Case offers.

Anyway, that's the gist of our conversation. Case appeared to be very receptive and we have agreed to maintain contact via phone and email so hopefully our message will begin to get through.

It's a start.

Thank you, Peter.

What Case may do that would really help is to promote CV, particularly in the South, as carbon steel. I know many an old timer who would carry nothing less, and is forced to other brands since they don't know what CV is.

Incredible, thanks for the legwork! Bully for you, Blues, you just charged up San Juan Hill successfully!

I eagerly await those CV patterns, and would open my wallet for a nice, thin, flat-ground Little Finn as well if they change their minds and decide to offer CV sheath knives as well.

As valuable as encouraging immediate production of more CV knives is the promise of continuing dialogue and suggestions for paterns and scales that would sell well for them. Two big thumbs up!

+1

If more people were educated about the virtues of high-carbon steel, and knew that CV was in fact high-carbon steel, sales would escalate. I think a big part of the problem is that stainless, particularly shoddy stainless (not referring to Case here), is pushed on end users at gun shows and the 'Marts, and people never get a chance to use or understand the qualities of good, high-carbon steel.

Thanks guys, it was an honor and a pleasure doing my best to represent you. Still, I would try to bear in mind that this may in fact only be a baby step and that getting large companies like Case (or any other) to make changes is a process that may take some time and effort.

Then again, we ain't going anywhere. ;)

Blues well done and thanks for the report. Any hint on what the new CV paterns are?

Thanks, Bill. No, they're keeping that close to the vest though he did let on that one offering was a liner lock.

One encouraging factor was that he told me that the call was "well timed" because they are about to have meetings to propose upcoming production, so if his saying so is true, perhaps some of our concerns and wants will be brought to table.

Oh, and they did confirm what Tony Bose told me which was that the swayback jack would be offered in CV.

You mean the Bose-Case swayback jack!!! Woohoo!!! It's Christmas in April. Thanks for the fantastic news.

(Admit it, you were holding out on us, weren't you?) :D

Do you know when it will be out, or in what scale material? I'm going to start saving my pennies today.

If I recall correctly that's a June release (or so).

That's not the Case-Bose collaboration knife, but a Tony Bose pattern nonetheless and a great gents (or ladies) knife.

Holding out? Me? Surely you jest. ;)

Good news Elliott, and thanks for advocating for all us folksy folk and our hopes to see more CV bladed pocketknives from Case.

Sweet. I'll be looking for it. Thanks again for the info and for advocating for more CV knives with Case.

Elliott,

Is there a contact email for us to write?
We could also politely inform Case how we would like CVs.

Neeman,

I'd check the W.R. Case website for their contact info. Out of respect for Tony Bose who provided me with the point of contact and the gentleman himself, I'm not going to post his info here so that he gets inundated with emails or phone calls.

Best to go through their website or switchboard and allow them to take appropriate steps to ensure that those who need to know are notified.

I hope you understand my reasoning with this.
