HT oven build

My guess is that the lamp contact for the switch is on the hot side, not the switched side. Or, the switch is the LED type that is always illuminated as long as it is pugged in.

installed the top bricks and the hanger support for the thermocouple.

here is a little video of it.

still not sure I fully understand the controller. going to need to keep studying and trying things.

the controller wasn't set right so it took a while. it stalled out at about 1470 but I could see the heat cycling on and off and it seemed like it wasn't heating long enough in the cycle to get it to ramp. I ran an auto tune on it and it then continued ramping. I'm still not sure I set it correctly in the end. I'll report back when I'm more confident in what I'm doing.

Another thing. Is there any reason that you want to put the controller that far from the Oven. As I known that the thermal couple will generate very small voltage, in some online document that I've read they recommend that it will be better to put the controller closer to it.

The distance itself is not really an issue. At work, I've run thermocouples with cables hundreds of feet long. The problem usually tends to be when there are thermocouple cables running near power cables which causes an induced Voltage in the thermocouple cable. There are whole books on the subject, so it's probably beyond the scope of a BF post, other than to advise keeping as much separation between the power-carrying cables and the thermocouple cables as you can, and if the controller has a filter setting in its programming, set it to your mains frequency.

Using the correct thermocouple cable is important too.

Nice looking Build Jerid! Where did you get the ceramic insulating blocks and brass connectors from. I have a HT oven that I need to finish building this winter, but still need to gather a few parts.

Is that a Harbor Freight cart the oven is on?

ceramic insulators came from Paragon and include the brass connectors if I recall correctly.

yes, HF cart. not as sturdy as I'd like. probably better off welding up my own.

Finally got around to documenting the parts list and sources..
