hundred pacer who got one whos getting one...

All right, i have reservations on this one, but i sold a couple of knives and pulled the trigger for it. I am concerned that its too big for me, bit the design is unique so i need to try one.

I’m also curious about your thoughts on it. I like it but 4” blades aren’t for me. After seeing the pics and reading about it I kind of want one now. The snake skin handle is bitchin.

Just unboxed the Hundred Pacer about 30 minutes ago. Here are my initial thoughts.

1. It is huge. Bigly huge.
2. For it's size, it surprisingly light.
3. It feels fantastic in hand.
4. I'm not sure what this knife actually wants to be. It's big, but it isn't over built like we've come to expect from big knives and it would not be my first choice for a lost in the woods knife. It isn't exactly robust with the thin blade and liner lock. It isn't an EDC due to its large size, both in the pocket and out of it. It could be a great kitchen / camp knife but certainly isn't marked that way. It could be a great skinner or hunting knife but as big as it is, and with the detailed scales, it wouldn't be my first choice to gut a deer with.
5. Feels a bit over priced.
6. Feels like it was based on art over function.

So, what the hell is this knife supposed to be? I mean it's sharp and can cut things, but this isn't a pocket knife, it isn't a survival knife, it isn't a hunting knife, it isn't a kitchen knife. It's a knife and a big ass one at that and maybe it doesn't have a niche, but I'd guess Spyderco didn't produce this because the designer is a nice guy. They had to believe it would sell. But why would it sell?

I love the design. Fit and finish is perfect. It's a great caricature of the snake. It would be a great EDC if it were smaller, let's call it a 50 or 75 Pacer.

Anyway, I'm going to live with this for a bit, carry it as I can and I'll update after I get some life experience with it.

Maybe if we get lucky, I'd love to know Sal's thoughts on this knife beyond the "Hundred paces and you are dead" story.

^sounds like it aint great for ya. sorry it wasnt more for ya. give it a bit of time. the sheer size will wear down and then youll know if ya like it or dont.

i like the length just wish it was a bit more zt 0452 in width. not sure it would feel so great in the hand like it does now though? course thick liners would never upset me.

Thanks for the review. Sorry it wasn't a better fit for you. Cool looking knife though.

Thanks guys. I like the knife, just need to find a niche for it. I am going to EDC it today and see how it works out in the pocket.

After a day in the pocket, man, this thing carries well. It's light and isn't as bulky in the pocket as you'd think.
I am impressed how well it carries.

yep. even the size of the whole knife..... you adjust to it eventually. it wont look or feel so big unless you got another with ya and swap back and forth. glad ya had a good run with it today. hopefully turns into a good long run for ya.

I'm a big fan of the Spyderco "little big knives" like the Techno. Looks like they also did a hell of a job with their "big little knife."

^maybe i should start pushing the chinook 4 on folks. heavily overlooked knife due to blade shape as well. man is it a great knife.

The only thing that I'm hung up on is how wide it is in the closed position. Looks wider than a Manix2. Might be too wide for me.

But given my track record , I'll prob pick one up out of sheer curiosity.

It is very wide closed and yes, while I don't own a Manix any more, I'm pretty sure it's wider.

It really carries much smaller than it looks.

Id like to get a Hundred Pacer.

About the size; I was surprised, that some would find it 'hugely big' ...
....but then I bought a K2 when they got discounted from KC or BHQ.

THATS a big folder.

Guess it depends on, which folder size, one is used to.

I have a Chinook 3. Not the only reason not to get a 4. Because I can't wrap my brain around why the 4 is tip up only!
The Chinook has been multiposition clip since it abandoned the Military clip, which I contend is the best version.
I was really excited for the Powerlock too. Tip-up only completely ruined it! WTF
