Archery season for deer opens here in Kentucky in a week and half and I'm ready. We, my son and I, got "our" stand hung last weekend. I've always used climbing stands, but he is adiment that he wants to go with me this fall, so we'll use a 2-man ladder stand. We spent Sunday clearing shooting lanes and getting the trail camera hung. And I've been putting in time shooting my bow in preparation. This is the first time I've used an arrow retriever. I'm not sure about the long term dependability of it, but it sure makes my evening practice sessions more enjoyable.

Anyone else hunt or trap (and for what)? And are you ready for season?

I really can't contribute to this, I have not hunted in many years, but look forward to what others post.

I love bow season. Rarely have the time to get out but its the best imo. Not to hot. Not to cold. Usually catch the start of the rut. I'm going try to and get out at least a couple days. Got mine all sighted in and ready

I used to enjoy bow hunting deer but have drifted away from it. My hunting now is usually a squirrel hunt or 2 and Illinois gun season and muzzle loader season for whitetails. Generally spend a few days spring gobbler hunting but missed out on going last year. When wild Pheasants were plentiful I was a Pheasant Hunting Maniac, but that ended in the 1990's here in Eastern and Northern Illinois. Field Canada Goose hunting was a passion for awhile, but all my spots became subdivisions. Western deer and antelope hunting ( Wyoming, S Dakota, Montana)was a big deal for me in the 80's and 90's and would maybe like to do that again. Things change, hunting partners disappear, legs get weak, money gets tight, time gets unavailable, farms change hands, priorities shift...things change. I just made myself sad writing this.:(

Just found out that my daughter is going to give birth to twin boys at year end!
MORE ARROW RETRIEVERS!

A hunting thread with no pictures is a sad thing. Here's one from a couple of springs ago.

Of all things he was fascinated by it's feet.

I enjoy turkey hunting the most (thus the username). I managed to get my "Grandslam" the year my oldest daughter was born. I also do a little deer and rabbit hunting with a friend that has beagle hounds. I actually got started trapping because of him. He lets me hunt on his farm, and after getting a couple coyotes during turkey and deer season, I decided to start trapping to thin them out and help out the other wildlife.

I'll look for some photos to add, but most of them are on the old computer.

Found some from a few years back.

A Texas Rio

10 pt off the family farm, biggest buck I've seen there.

Rabbit hunting with my friend.

That's my Ky Fieldmate stuck in the stump, my son sure has grown from this photo- times going by fast.

hey guys. so, i have decided to take up archery hunting this year. my good buddy (and hunting mentor) goes to Ohio every year to hunt. well, this year he asked if i would want to go. YES! but, it is during archery season. so, i got all geared up and am practicing. i hadn't shot a bow in 25 years. with that said... i can't wait!

Good move getting back into archery. I find it relaxing to spend time shooting my bow. And the added time I get in the woods during bow season is a great bonus.

The peacefullness of bowhunting is my choice these days. I still get out during gun season, but would rather get a harvest with the bow.
I have a couple "trackers" now. They've tagged along on a couple bowhunts. Helped me skin deer, hang stands, etc. Not sure if any hunting is in the future, but they show a lot of interest in what I do.
