Hutning knife poll???

Joe thank you very much for the pic's.those are great looking knives and the stag is way cool.
Is that what you call a one liner?
Jeff

Maybe Joe won't mind me posting this, but ever since he mentioned rehandeling a 475, I have been racking my brain. Just what the heck is a 475. I know the 470 and 471, but not the 475. So I started digging.

Its the little one. The 470 is the big brother of the 47x series. This is a piggy back set.
Blade is 3.5 inches and oal is 7 1/8. Neat knife!!! Can't wait to see Joe's stag version. Oh yeah,,while I was digging, found a 477 camo guthook version of the 475. All these numbers....:o :o :D

I chalked the inscriptions so you could read em,,,maybe...

Jeff,
Yes, they are one liners. I thought they were two liners until I took the pictures.
I really like the twin set with both the Mentor and mini Mentor. The both of them together dont weigh much at all. Nice practical blades too.
Thanks for the pictures. :)

Older 110 with 440C. Recieved it as a Christmas gift over 25 years ago. I don't care for things on my belt and so I carry the 110 in my front pocket hunting. It has/is a great knife. It had gutted many a deer, several elk, some antelope, steelhead and other such critters. Steel is good enough that in one day I have gut and split the brisket on two deer or two young elk and it would still shave my arm. That along with some fantastic customer service has me sold on Buck knives and Leupold scopes. I will add a Thank You to the Buck origination.

Welcome to the forum Two!!!

It won't be too long before you will have to change your handle....lol....

Lets see,,,,there is BG42, CPM154, S30V, Damascus, Stag, cherrywood, oak, walnut, and well,,,,you get the picture.. lol....

I forgot to add,

That mini mentor is a pretty good knife, but it seems like the better designs get killed too fast. I bought two for my kids, as "first Knives" and they both still have them, but they are offshore and I have a thing about that. That knife in a better steel made here would be a killer, maybe even if they went back to the traditional black and nickel handle materials.

I have go to using BRKT knives lately for game, because I really like the way they handle. The older I have gotten after going up sized on the vanguard, I have found the smaller the knife, the faster I am done with the animal.

Again If i had my imput, it would be a mini alpha with a real grip on it, instead of too small scales that dont cover the edges of the tang.

Was there a change in production locations on the mini-mentor at some point in time. My 475 plain edge and 477 gut hook mini's are both clearly marked U.S.A.

Just curious....

The 475 has always been made right here in the states. Could you be thinking of another model?

Too late to go digging them out now, but IIRC both the mini's are not marked with a location and I seem to remember the clamshell packaging saying Made in China. I got them at the old Galyan's and they were like 14 bucks each which to me confirmed they were off shore.

Guntotin,
Scroll back up to the pic I posted of a Mentor 470 and a MiniMentor 475. I chalked the tang stamps and maybe you can see in the pic the USA stamping on both.

I do have a clampack laying here that has a little 425 mini buck, a 265 Folding Saw, and a 477 Guthook Mini Mentor. Clampack says Taiwan for the folding saw, and USA for the other two. Did your clampack have something else packaged in with th emini mentor?

So maybe that Galyans just had a good sale on. But when the Mentor 470 hit the market, they were only around 19 bucks so I would thing the price you gave for the mini would be about right. I once found 110's in clampacks for $18.61. Plenty cheap, But made in the USA. Price is not an indicator of where they were made.

Leads to another queston fror someone. Is the model 471 Diamondback made in the USA? It is a drop point that falls between the 470 and 475 in size, with the same type handle.

Give us some pics of those tang stamps Totin... Ya got our curiousity up. :)

I have one of the Cabela's "Alaskan Guide" series 692 Vanguards with the S30V blade...and it is one tremendous knife! It takes and holds a GREAT edge and is a fantastic "cutter" and "slicer" in the field.

I carry thr Bob Dozier Professional Guide Knife. Bought it years ago for $160 for ag russell. Now they are more expensive. I use the Kopremed model 21 folding hunting knife also. it is really nice. Ther eis a guy out in Qregon whos deals in them. very sharp in 440c w/african hardwood handle. I also have the bowie w/sawback and the european stag folding hunter also. I like knives from all over the world. I find it interesting to see how foriegn makers make knives(usually very well). Now I'm hooked on puukkos. Jeeze, whats next? I guess I'm just crazy about collecting knives. I think it is good thing for a man to be interested in for a hobby.

Is it humanly possible to read through all four pages of this thread and not get Buck fever all over again???

Holy Cow!!!!:eek::eek:

Our Deer/Turkey gun season starts in two weeks!!! I am so not ready....

Tracker,,,,,cracks me up....

If you like kyhunt's suggestion of a mini Vanguard from BP - hurry - they are 'Sale Priced!' there right now - stand back - $.11 off!. A dime and a penny off... good grief!

I 'hunt' with all of my Bucks - every day! I hunt for things to cut up. Bambi & Thumper's entrails are as safe from my Bucks as their existence is from my hand cannons (canni?). However, like Boris & Natasha, if I ever find a talking moose and/or flying squirrel, they are mine!. "So, Moose, why the long face?"

See what happens with too much caffein - and too early?
