I am a noob, and am willing to show it. Sebenza.. Holy crap!

Get that asbestos suit on, Allen! They're coming. ;)

Personally, when I think of "price fixing", I think first of Apple! :)

A Sebenza is just a high-quality tool, priced according to what the market dictates.

So is the Apple.

I only own one computer and it is an Apple. I don't do windows!

I only own 1 folder and that is a Lg Classic BG42 Sebbie that has been on my belt for about 4 years or so.

Both may have been overpriced, but both perform exactly the way I like and THAT is priceless!

I'm a little confused. You say the Seb holds a better edge, yet you sharpen it more obtusely. If the CRK HT was better, then you should be able to sharpen at a lower angle.

You didn't understand me. I don't sharpen my Seb at 30degrees because it is plenty sharp and has a longer edge retention at 40 degrees. I've never tried sharpening it a more acute angle because there is no need to IMO. All things being equal, a knife with a more acute angle will be sharper but will not hold an edge as long. I can get the seb scary sharp with a 40 degree edge and it will hold longer than at 30 degrees.

so why do you sharpen your other knives at 30 degrees if the edges won't hold up?

They hold up fine, but they would hold up longer if I sharpened them at 40 degrees. But they're sharper at 30 degrees which I guess is more important to me which is why I do it.

And before you ask me why don't I sharpen my seb at 30 degrees, if sharper is better. The answer is because the Seb is sharp enough at 40 degrees.

Let me start by saying I do't know what I'm talking about so don't flame me please. But I thought CRK heat treats his s30v to lower hardness? Spyderco's s30v is harder, right? So what hardheart said, CRK s30v should not be able to hold an edge at say spyderco's s30v? Like I said please don't flame me I'm just want to understand CRK s30v. I have about 200 bucks saved, and I'm going to save another 200 then pick Custom, semi custom (sebbie), or... shudder..shudder...dun..ta..........DUN!!!! A STRIDER

I have personally found Spyderco's, and especially Strider's S30V heat treatment to be far better than Chris Reeve's. I experienced MANY edge rolling problems on my S30V Sebenza. If you go Sebenza, it's worth going the extra mile to find an old BG-42 version.

If you want S30V heaven, take a close look at Strider. The heat treatment is fantastic. If you need something less expensive, Spyderco's S30V is very good.

so-lo, take a long look at what kind of cutting you do and match the knife to that.

As far as knives go, a Strider or Sebenza will cut most of what any of us encounter daily. But, if you want to match them up, they are as different in details as can be for similarly sized knives.

At this price level you can afford to be picky about what will really please you rather than buying an expensive knife that doesn't quite match what you do.
